ABC sucks for not picking Dynasty up for a 10th season, i bet it would have been great! season 9 was the best season I think. Alexis and Sable were awesome to watch, Dynasty still had some life in it for a few more seasons, i read its ratings for season 9 was around 12 million still good.

Dynasty was cancelled at the end of its ninth season due to declining ratings/viewership (falling to 57th place with a 10.40 rating) and the series ended on a cliffhanger. If there was a 10th season of Dynasty, the cliffhangers would have been resolved, and I would likely have concluded the series at the end of the season.

It also depending on your point of view, was symbolic since it coincided with the end of Ronald Reagan's time as president. To put things into proper perspective, the show started out in January 1981 - right before the Reagans took the White House. Throughout it's nine seasons, it mirrored the Reagans as a family, and their era of opulence, elegance and extravagance which they brought with them. They were a far cry from the humble Carters of Georgia.
The background of the business world was a direct reflection of what was going on under 'Reaganomics', where corporate takeovers were booming, and the wealthy became even wealthier. Conspicuous consumption ran amok in the '80s. In essence, "the more toys you had, the better off you appeared to the outside world", whether you could afford it or not.
Then again, it would be a stronger argument to make if the Reagans were replaced directly by the Clintons or other Democrats. In some ways, the next four years under the Bushes were just a continuation of Reagan's economic and environmental policies. Not much really changed until Clinton was elected.
