View Full Version : "Maude" Complete Series on DVD
LETTERL 07-11-2014, 08:40 AM We are all aware that only Season 1 of "Maude" has been released officially on DVD. However, through ioffer.com, I found a seller who has all 141 episodes transferred from VHS to DVD. These are recordings made off TVLand during the show's time in their lineup, are only about 21 minutes each and most are commercial free but they are arranged in chronological order and for those of us who don't receive channels where "Maude" currently airs, it's better than nothing. The cost of the entire set is $37.99.
I have enjoyed watching these episodes and "Maude" has taken a proud place in my classic TV collection.
I'm still hoping for official season releases of "Maude" later on but am quite satisfied with what I received, even if the episodes are cut.

I downloaded the complete series off a torrent a few years ago (a torrent that doesn't seem to be seeded any longer)...sadly it seems to be the only way to get copies of all the episodes is through various black market channels. I definitely think you got your money's worth though! Maybe eventually the studio will wake up and realize that if people are willing to spend $$ they might as well make money off of their dusty old archives and release the series officially.

Good luck with that. I have a friend who is in the business and he has told me that the profit margin for TV series on DVD is very slim. There needs to be a strong demand for a show to make it worthwhile to put on DVD. Typically, sales decline with each subsequent season release. The expectation is always that sales of S2 will be less than sales of S1, sales of S3 will be less than sales of S2, sales of S4 will be less than sales of S3, and so forth. Companies make predictions on how the next season will sell based on what happens with the one they just released. If the first season sales are not strong, they won't go any further. In the case of Maude, perhaps there was a failure in marketing that caused the first season not to hit its sales targets. That's what happened with the first season release of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and it was years later, and the result of publicity from an Oprah episode, that the second season was finally released and it sold like gangbusters. That led to the remaining seasons also being released.
tlc38tlc38 08-20-2014, 08:09 AM I'm just gonna wait on Shout! Factory or Time Life to release it. I know it's only a matter of time before it happens because companies are running out of "top name/well-known classic" shows to release.
TVFactFan 08-30-2014, 04:57 PM Why would someone buy EDITED episodes when the show is on Antenna TV and complete on youtube???
WHY??????????????

No everyone gets Antenna TV (I don't) and not everyone (myself included) likes to watch full episodes on YouTube.
MRPITT 08-31-2014, 08:15 PM I recorded the series off Antenna TV and I am sure it is much better quality than a VHS transfer. I am willing to trade if anyone's interested.

Regardless, the fact that it's available on youtube decreases the appeal since the show is not hard to get

Frankly, my bank account is none of your business. Why is it you always start feuds with people? If you can't say something nice, shut your hole.

Eh, I wouldn't really expect it to be released on DVD at this point. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon instant, etc though would make more sense, less overhead and cost risk, since it seems at this point they have no faith in the show moving DVDs. Maude is a solid syndication performer so it gives me hope that eventually they'll release it in some other way...I would definitely like to be able to watch uncut episodes!
