View Full Version : July 4th shows
treky 07-05-2014, 03:07 AM can anyone recall any TV show episodes (sitcom and drama) that took place on the 4th of July? The only ones I can think of are an episode of THE BOB NEWHART SHOW and I think there was one on BARNEY MILLER once. Also the MASH episode A WAR FOR ALL SEASONS had a segment that took place on the 4th.
Any others? I'm sure there were.
Penny Lane 07-05-2014, 09:12 PM I think I remember that Bob Newhart Show episode. Didn't Bob and Emily get locked in their storage room? But other than that I cannot think of any other. That's probably because most tv series' are broadcast between September and May. So any holiday( which would be Independence Day or Father's Day) during the summer months are omitted.
TVFactFan 07-05-2014, 10:43 PM Never understood the thinking behind a marathon on July 4th, a day when most are with family at a cookout or at other July 4th festivities

yes it was. They went down there to get something to loan Howard for a July 4th costume party he was having, and Carol, her husband, Jerry & Howard all came dressed as "uncle Sam". When they somehow rescued Bob & Emily Bob looked at them and said "I feel like we've been rescued by a vaudeville revue!"
James28 07-06-2014, 01:18 AM It would be rare for a TV show to have a 4th of July/U.S. Independence Day show/episode, because the 4th of July/Independence day would take place during the broadcast TV networks' summer hiatus.
TVFactFan 07-06-2014, 01:30 AM I thought this thread was asking about a July 4th marathon lol
I think Good times had a July 4th episode
jasonbigley 07-07-2014, 06:25 PM Saved By The Bell- The one episode where they are working at the beach during the summer is a 4th Of July episode. The girls have a beauty contest and at the end of the episode, Stacey and Zack are watching the fireworks.
The Wonder Years- The final scene of the very last episode is where Kevin and Winnie come home and join the family at the 4th Of July parade taking place.
Retro4Life 07-07-2014, 09:06 PM The soaps traditionally had 4th of July episodes, often with the more senior cast members raising a flag during a family picnic. (I recall GL and ATWT doing this).
But no, I can't think of any prime time sitcom 4th episodes, for the reasons listed above.
robyrob 07-07-2014, 10:32 PM Happy Days - the first episode of season 9, #190 "Home Movies" is a two-parter where Joanie is making a home movie she is sending to Richie telling him everything that happened over the summer. Howard has a 4th of July barbeque party (which is where Lori-Beth announces that she's pregnant), and Joanie and Jenny are working at the concession stand at the lake when the fireworks are happening and Chachi makes out with some other girl while Joanie is working - causing the start of all the ridiculous on-and-off again nonsense between them for the rest of the season.

tvfan25 07-09-2014, 08:06 AM I remember Frasier Crane dressing up like Uncle Sam on "Frasier". I can't remember what else the episode was about.

not surprising, considering that HAPPY DAYS itself was ridiculous by then.

MASH: there was also a 4th of July sequence in the finale movie, in which the 4077th went to a beach and watched fireworks.
