Unsolved Mysteries - even in reruns - was so intriguing and dramatic, the stories amazing, fascinating, and mysterious. But it was really Robert Stack himself that made the show poignant. Taking apart the show and reformatting it with a new host is not only an unnecessary hassle and expense but it ruins the prestige of television's premier true life mystery show. Ditching the theme song and Robert Stack - now that's the biggest Unsolved Mystery of them all!

My theory is that the producers thought they could attract new audiences by "modernizing" the show. Unfortunately, the new incarnation didn't please the diehard fans who preferred the originals with Stack. I do wonder if UM gained any new fans who were unaware of the shows' roots. That would be interesting.
