View Full Version : New John Walsh show "The Hunt" coming to CNN!
wiseguy182 07-02-2014, 02:40 AM Debuting Sunday night at 9 p.m., July 13, a new John Walsh show called "The Hunt" will air on CNN. A commercial for it appeared during the McStay special last night. I love how John warned criminals that their days on the run were numbered. Go John! Can't wait for the new show.
Spark Of Spirit 07-02-2014, 12:42 PM Glad he's back.
wiseguy182 07-03-2014, 12:40 AM Me too.
The commercial suggested he was going after some of the most notorious criminals he's been unable to catch so far.
wiseguy182 07-13-2014, 06:54 AM don't forget this starts tonight at 9 p.m. EST! John is ready to catch some evil bastards!
Janice 07-13-2014, 05:48 PM I'll check it out. Love John Walsh.
yasdnil 07-14-2014, 05:21 PM I watched the first episode last night and I liked it. :)
crystaldawn 07-14-2014, 05:31 PM I do like John Walsh and its no fault of his (he did a good job) but I really disliked it!! They seemed to just drag on and gave out a little info here and there and kept showing graphic images or blood dripping and it just didn't hold my attention at all. I do hope they catch the creep they profiled of course but as for me I'm done watching. Just my opinion though.

BBM
I didn't care for that either. :( Pointless and didn't really add anything IMO, ya know?
I liked it for the fact that it was a recent case that I actually didn't know much about (I try to keep up on recent cases, but I hadn't read up on this one) and I liked the locals' perspective.
it just seemed overproduced and boring, i only watched for about 5 to 10 minutes before i stopped watching
wiseguy182 08-23-2014, 02:12 AM John is going to do Jacob Wetterling's case on August 31. Wonder if they'll have new info.

I saw that! I was wondering that, too. One can hope. http://i.imgur.com/jQV5snr.gif
UMLongtimefan 09-29-2014, 07:32 PM I've watched it a couple of times, WBB and the Jacob Wetterling cases. I know its hard when you know a lot about the cases like WBB, but I really like this new show. I think this is exactly how AMW should have been redone a little more classy, a little more in-depth, John's commentary rather than a Studio Update. I think if they don't have enough info to stretch it out to the hour, then do 2-3 cases. I also don't think CNN is the best place for it. I think HLN might be the better place for it, maybe friday nights.

No, the ratings and exposure are much better where it is, CNN Sunday nights.
wiseguy182 12-23-2014, 08:41 AM Here are some updates on cases. Shane Miller, Charles Mozdir and Kevin Stoeser have all been located deceased.
Genevieve Kelly has surrendered to authorities, but sadly Mary Nunes is still missing.
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/n/nunes_mary.html
Sadly, the 25th anniversary of Jacob Wetterling's disappearance came and went with no huge movement on the case.
And an update on the show in general: it has been renewed for a second season, which will begin in March or April 2015. :)

When it comes to public service shows, doing just one case per episode is not enough. In fact, it is counterproductive, since it greatly reduces the number of cases that are put on the show - even some of the most urgent ones.

wiseguy182 12-31-2014, 09:21 AM I can't believe for the Jacob Wetterling segment, instead of showing any of the known composite sketches for the abductor, or age-progressions for that matter, they kept showing a picture of a masked man. Oh, like that's really gonna solve the case! Let me know if you saw this masked man 25 years ago.
JC1957 12-31-2014, 03:38 PM And an update on the show in general: it has been renewed for a second season, which will begin in March or April 2015. :)I'm all for that. The show is very important but i really question who much John Walsh is committed to the show these days. Few shows and long gaps in between them. Would be nicer if Walsh allowed someone else to host the show whenever he wants a break.

Oh, I imagine he's very committed. There have been 8 episodes so far, which is the same amount of episodes that another program on CNN -- Death Row Stories has had, so perhaps CNN just likes to start at 8 to test the waters.
wiseguy182 04-04-2015, 06:26 AM I would have thought we would have seen new episodes by now, but that hasn't been the case. I can't even tell when the series is coming back.
I did find this blurb that has a list of possible upcoming cases. The only one that's familiar to me is Timothy Pitzen.
Return Date: Unknown 2015. (articles initially implied March or April, but may have been pushed back to July)
Probable Cases:
Alexander Hill Jr. (Virginia)- Quadruple homicide suspect in the murder and arson deaths of four people, including a 2-year old boy. Hill is also wanted on child pornography charges.
Matthew Dion (New Hampshire)- Wanted for the strangulation death of his parents. Their house was also set on fire. Dion is also wanted on child pornography charges.
Megan Everett (Florida)- In perhaps one of the most bizarre kidnapping cases that will ever be shown on AMW or The Hunt, Everett allegedly kidnapped her 2-year old child because she didn't want her to get vaccinations and/or learn about black history month in school.
Timothy Pitzen (Illinois/Wisconsin) (Missing Child Case)- A now 10-year old boy who lived with his parents in Illinois but was last seen in Wisconsin. His mother Amy claimed to have given him away before committing suicide.
William Greer (Texas)- Wanted out of Harris County Texas for the murder of his wife Tammy Esquivel, who he admitted to killing to police while drunk. Esquivel's body has never been recovered.
Note: Our research has also learned there were plans to air the case of an alleged child molester named Johnny Napier but he has since been captured.

Just saw a preview for the second season. It starts in July! Woohoo!
wiseguy182 07-30-2015, 03:32 AM As it turns out, both Matthew Dion and Alexander Hill were caught earlier in the year, so I imagine those segments were scrapped for those reasons.
And apparently it's been confirmed Megan Everett will be profiled on an upcoming episode.
Megan Everett's capture today has to be one of the quickest captures after a broadcast in any series! So glad she's in custody and Lily can be with her dad again, and away from all that psycho confederate B.S.

Actually, you are correct. In a recent interview (from the link below), John Walsh said he agreed to do 8 episodes of The Hunt for its first season, since he was told that 8 was the minimum number of episodes. Doing only 8 episodes in 2014 gave Walsh a chance to see how they performed in the ratings before deciding on whether or not to commit to the series afterwards.

wiseguy182 08-15-2015, 08:01 AM Just a note that it has apparently been confirmed that the Timmothy Pitzen case will be on The Hunt. I believe the airdate for this is 2 weeks from tomorrow, August 30. For those unfamiliar with the case, it is probably one of the more well-known missing persons cases from this decade (so far) and was featured on the pilot for a missing persons show hosted by Elizabeth Smart that never really got off the ground. Anyways, he is/was a 6 year old boy who was removed from his kindergarten class by his mother. They did some activities during the following hours, but she was later spotted alone the next night and committed suicide shortly thereafter. It remains unknown what happened to Timmothy.

everprincess 08-15-2015, 11:15 AM Very sad case.
wiseguy182 08-15-2015, 04:01 PM Indeed. I'm interested to see what John has to say about the mother.
wiseguy182 08-23-2015, 03:02 PM I somehow missed this, but religious cult leader and child molester Victor Bernard, profiled on the Hunt last year, was captured in March in Brazil after fleeing from Minnesota. Extradition could take 3 years, but at least he's behind bars and not hurting any more children.
One of my favorite captures was when the dog brought home child molester Kevin Stoesser's skull home in its teeth!
I really like the theme song to this show!
They need to do longer updates though. Each one seemed like it was 15 seconds, if that. And more cases per hour. All of this super slow-mo, gratuitous still shots of depicted violent scenes and crap becomes unbearable to watch after awhile.
wiseguy182 08-30-2015, 06:36 AM Just a reminder the Timmothy Pitzen case is on tonight, I think there are actually 2 new episodes tonight.
wiseguy182 09-24-2015, 01:26 AM Just a note that the Hunt with John Walsh has been renewed for season 3, though no word on when that is and I think there's even still a handful of season 2 episodes to air.
Right now, CNN has been airing the mind-boggingly stupid program "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" in its time slot for the time being. I have no idea what the appeal of this program is. Man travels places and eats food. Would be nice if WE could eat the food. Ugh.
JC1957 09-24-2015, 03:27 PM I'm pretty fed up with any shows on CNN. Constant "breaking news" broadcasts or news stories that go on and on preempting most shows I wanna watch.
Last week I was watching a story about the BTK serial killer and they cut in with "breaking news" about Donald Trump's latest campaign speech.
Gimme a break.
Another update: Paul Jackson, who was on the "Torture House" episode from this past season, surrendered. http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/28/us/the-hunt-fugitive-paul-jackson-arrest/index.html

Good. That scumbag needed to be taken off the streets. The articles I'm reading though say police nabbed him after a viewer tip and he gave them a false name.
What's really good about the Hunt is that they go after (and in many cases, get) the criminals who are tough to find, the ones who had knowledge in how to hide, the ones who got help in hiding, and ones in long cold cases that thought they had gotten away with it. This program does an excellent job in informing the perps that they can never breathe easy, that people don't forget and that there will always be people looking for them.
DALLASTEXAN!! 12-20-2015, 03:26 AM I'm finally watching the show on Netflix. Didn't realize he did a Bradford bishop segment
Is there any word on another season? I was under the impression that this last season was going to be 16 episodes, 8 airing this past fall and then the other 8 airing sometime after that. Perhaps after all this election stuff?
I really like the presentation of this show. I'm glad they don't try to cram a bunch of stories into a one-hour episode like some other shows.

My source says the show is coming back, but no idea when. There is some confusion as to whether the upcoming episodes are the second part of season 2 or are season 3 episodes. But you are correct in that there 8 upcoming episodes.
The election stuff isn't going away, unfortunately.
wiseguy182 01-16-2016, 12:22 AM has anyone ever seen that ATROCIOUS message board regarding AMW/The Hunt? It's run by some nut called "Scumhunter", who uses every available opportunity to bash The Hunt, CNN, AMW fans and just about everyone and everything else connected to the show. I mean, I think most of us have had some constructive criticism from time to time regarding UM, AMW, the Hunt and similar shows, but she really takes it to a whole other level. She's probably the biggest Concern Troll out there. No wonder it's not a very active forum.
Scumhunter 01-08-2017, 06:03 PM Hi, this is Scumhunter.
A year late on this, ha. But just so everyone knows season 4 from what I know has filmed re-enactments and interviews and such but I do not know when it returns. Also, Chris Ponce from Season 1 was captured in Spain last summer but still hasn't been extradited yet.
But yeah Wiseguy, I know I sort of called you out on my message board (AMW/The Hunt), but in all honesty it was just a boiling point of multiple sites copying and pasting our information and/or claiming "my source" and then not crediting us. You at least credited us once earlier in the thread.
I will address your criticism, which whether you felt that way before or after I made my comments is for the most part fair. The way some posters or me review Hunt episodes as I explained in one thread is like the same way nerds dissect comic book movies. Like even if we liked it, we dissect every thing we did and didn't like. My comments from the first season may have been harsher in tone than threads on the site than in the last two seasons since I was a long-time AMW fan and the new format (only 1-2 fugitives an episode) was something to get used to. My concern was mainly about capturing as many fugitives as possible when they only focused on 1-2 cases.. However, I've now grown used to it and have started to really appreciate the focus on just one fugitive or two fugitives and making them stand out more and the quality of production. I've been a lot more positive about the show lately.
As far as CNN, most of my criticisms were related to stuff like when they would cancel a Hunt rerun to talk about some minor update on Flight 870 8 months, 9 months, 1 year later. While The Hunt is my favorite show, I still feel like CNN's news coverage can be vastly improved. We will either agree or disagree on that one.
Also, I'm not a she :) but as far as being a concern troll, there is nothing I care about more than hoping the cases on AMW, The Hunt, and our forum, are one day solved. We have many family members of the victims of some of the cases as regular posters. I helped one family member get their loved one's case on the Unsolved Mysteries website.
As far as being an active forum, we've had a few more posters register in the last year and are a lot more active than we have been in the past. Even amw.com's official forums on Fox was starting to go dead towards the end of the run. But I enjoy the posters we have and how they care about the cases and the new ones we've gained in the past year.
And with everything being said, as a somewhat lurker as well on this forum, I've seen your comments on other threads and see you really do care about the cases, and that is really what should matter and not who credits who.
If you still don't like me, nothing I can do about that and can't win em all. But you are more than welcome to join my forum as well. We're obviously not always going to agree on everything, but that's fine as long as there's civil discussion.
But in conclusion, let's hope we catch some bad guys/girls this year! :)
