Boom! Studios Announces "Sleepy Hollow" Comic Book Series
6/30/14
by Graeme McMillan

This fall, Abbie Mills and Ichabod Crane’s quest to protect the world from the forces of Hell—or, at least, a headless horseman or two—continues in comic books as well as television with the announcement Monday that Boom! Studios will launch a four-issue Sleepy Hollow series in October.

Each issue of the series will feature a lead story written by Marguerite Bennett with art by Jorge Coelho as well as a second strip by Noelle Stevens, whose current Boom! series Lumberjanes has been one of the most critically-acclaimed independent books of recent months.

In an interview with the website Comic Book Resources, Bennett said that the stories in the series take place across different parts of the television show’s timeline.

“The first issue takes place early in the first season and is a story of magic, the second is in the middle and is a story of myth, and the third and fourth are close to the end, and are the story of a machine,” she explained.

If successful, Bennett said that she would “write Ichabod and Abbie through seven years of Witnessing, if they'd let me, and I'd be grateful every minute of it.”

She called the original Fox series “a brilliant, quirky, scary, fun show, and we're fighting to live up to it every minute, in every way.”

Sleepy Hollow No. 1 will be available digitally and in comic book stores October 15.

The world of "Sleepy Hollow" — and, most importantly, Tom Mison’s hair—no longer exists only on the small screen. BOOM! Studios has created new prologues to the series in the form of digital comics, the first of which are available on the show’s Facebook page and BOOM!’s Tumblr page.

The first two prologues focus on Ichabod Crane and Jenny Mills (who we now know survived her ordeal at the end of season 1). Both pieces, which take place before the first season of the Fox show, are written by Bad Robot‘s Mike Johnson and illustrated by Matias Bergara.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a total of five shorts are planned. And then, BOOM!’s full Sleepy Hollow comic, written by Marguerite Bennett with art by Jorge Coelho, will debut Oct. 15.

The comic will also feature shorts by Noelle Stevenson.
