I know she is somewhat of a patron saint on this board, but does anyone else dislike Betty White? I have never liked Betty White, in anything. I hated her Sun Ann Niven character on the MTM show (her character sucked, what was she, some horny sociopathic grandmother?) I disliked her in Mama's Family and she was the weakest player on The Golden Girls. The Golden Girls would have been so much better without freaking Betty White. Imagine Dorothy, Ma and Blanche...with no Betty White farting on the show.

Now she plays some thousand year old woman on some trashy reality show I saw five minutes of. Hot in Cleveland? To nurse my over 30 year old Generation X sex fantasy with Valarie Bertinelli (I think even Elton John would do Valarie Bertinelli...because she is freaking Valarie Bertinelli) but that old crow Betty White has to be in it.

Different strokes for different strokes I guess, but I LOVE Betty White every which way: her acting, kindness to fans, her gratitude for her fame, her love and devotion to animals, the touching way she always refers to her beloved Allen, and especially--that she is such a pistol at 92-still going strong God Bless her. I hate people that hate Betty White and it's not her that has the mental disease, it's you so please take Wiseguy's advise and seek help immediately. To hate Betty White is the equivalent of hating Santa Claus so I'm guessing you had an unhappy childhood.

i have always liked her myself but back in the mid 80s when my mother owned care homes for the elderly one of the people who lived ib the home told us that he never could stand betty white

I think you should be tied up in a strait jacket, and locked up forever in an insane asylum. Along with AbsolutelyRight (more like AbsolutelyWrong). He was from a forum I used to go to.

Not liking a character BW plays is one thing, but having an irrational hatred for somebody you never met and has never done anything to you means you have major issues.

I don't care much for the Sue Ann Nivens charcter on MTM either. There was a major void after Valerie Harper left and Sue Ann didn't fill it.

Maybe I'll go against the flow a bit here myself. I've always liked Betty White. She was terrific as Sue Ann Nivens. And White was an absolute charm in her younger days, as in "Date With the Angels" and such. Lovely, lovely actress, with fine comedic timing. There's something really endearing about her.

But in all honesty, I've never really cared for her falling into the boorish comedy cliche of the seemingly unlikely "older person who blurts out inappropriate sex jokes" for comedy. It's like a cheap and tiresome trope. Although she's found great fame and fortune in her twilight years cornering that little niche, I've looked upon it as more than a bit depressing, considering her earlier comedic forays and abilities.

That "Grim Reaper" part of his initial post here is really extreme/over-the-top, and I'm afraid it looks like something that breaks this forum's rules. I would suspect that hating "Betty White" is the equivalent of hating some religious deity. Telling somebody to seek (mental/"professional") help or that they "belong in an insane asylum" is extreme/way over the top, also.

IMO, a 70+-year-old actor can still be active in his acting job as long as his health isn't too poor.

The OP went overboard with his grim reaper reference. But while Betty White is loved by many, people are entitled to not like her and not get attacked for it. There's some people who take any Betty White criticism personally, multiple posters ganging up on the OP saying to seek help and they belong in an asylum is going too far.

By the way, I don't hate Betty White but I'm not a fan of hers either, I think she's definitely on the overrated side.

Of course I like Betty White but it seems the geniuses in Hollywood think she can only play one role - the funny old lady with a terrific sense of humor. I believe she can (and may want) to do more than that.
