"The View" Shake-Up: Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy Out!
by Andy Swift
June 26, 2014

After seven years on ABC’s "The View", co-host Sherri Shepherd is officially vacating her seat at the table.

“It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on,” Shepherd said in a statement. “I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Gedde for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”

“The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” ABC said its own statement.

Following Sherri Shepherd‘s statement about leaving the ABC daytime talk show, Jenny McCarthy on Thursday tweeted a confirmation (of sorts) that she also won’t be returning next season.

"My View will be changing too. As will with many hard working folks. Thanks to everyone at the show for your dedication and an amazing year."

"If Sherri goes... I go too. #sisters"

Sources have confirmed to TVLine that Jenny McCarthy won't be returning next season, but ABC has not released any official reports on her status.

I think the View might be ending. I mean how many more shakeups does this show need? Too bad about Sherri. I like her. Jenny, on the other hand, didnt seem to fit there. I mean I like her too but from the beginning it was always deemed a bad decision to have her on there.

ABC should just cancel “The View” already (http://www.salon.com/2014/06/27/abc_dont_bother_firing_everyone_just_cancel_the_view_already/).

What was Jenny McCarthy doing on this show anyway? There are literally thousands of hard-core naked photos of her flooding the internet from her recent and not-so-recent years as a Playboy bunny skin model. I only occasionally watched this show, but I thought that it was supposed to be about the intelligent and thought-provoking viewpoints of women about various topics and situations that confront today's women and families. Isn't the fight against pornography one of these issues women are struggling with on a daily basis? What contribution Jim Carey's former seductress and bed-partner could make on this show is and was beyond my line of reasoning.

I could be wrong, but I'm wondering if Sherri's personal problems (her recent divorce and ex-husband wanting custody of their son) had something to do w/ her deciding to leave.

Barbara Walters Breaks Silence on "The View's" Future
July 2, 2014
by Sadie Gennis

Barbara Walters is finally speaking out on the future of "The View" following the abrupt firings of hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy.

"I don't know. ... I'm not sure. I know The View will continue," the talk show's creator told Extra. "I don't think we have a new direction yet. I think we have time."

After 17 years at the table, Walters retired from "The View" in May. Last week, the series announced Shepherd and McCarthy would not return next year, leaving Whoopi Goldberg as the sole remaining host.

Rosie and Whoopi????????????

http://variety.com/2014/tv/opinion/why-the-view-should-bring-back-rosie-odonnell-1201253140/

“The View” was at its best when Rosie O’Donnell was there with actual opinions — something the show has lacked recently. As Ramin Setoodeh points out, ABC wanted to move away from the political talk with the exits of Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The result is a “View” that spent more time on mindless celebrity gossip than heftier topics. "If ABC wants 'The View' to survive for another few seasons, Rosie is probably the show’s best bet,” he says. "Most of the women who grew up watching her on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” are now moms themselves, and will tune in for more Rosie (who is now 52). She’s available to take the job.” PLUS: Sharon Osbourne can’t see Rosie and Whoopi together (http://www.extratv.com/2014/06/27/sharon-osbourne-reacts-to-the-view-shakeup/) as "View" regulars.

“Good Day L.A.’s” Lauren Sanchez, a former “View” runner-up, could get the gig, and so could former Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman Jr.’s daughter, Abby. Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy Confirm "The View" Departures Live on the Air
by Andy Swift
July 7 2014

ABC on Monday aired its first live episode of "The View" since co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy confirmed their departures earlier this month.

So, what went down? Not one to pull punches, moderator Whoopi Goldberg immediately prompted the ladies to address the “giant neon pink gorilla in the room.”

After a brief fake-out (“We’re staying!”), McCarthy spoke first:

“After much consideration, I’ve taken a new job that will allow me to do what I do best, which is to talk without interrupting anyone. So stay tuned … even if it does compete with The View.”

Shepherd was up next, and she fought to hold back tears during her entire speech. She said she’s known she was going to depart since the spring, but kept it quiet because she “didn’t want to do anything to distract from Barbara Walters and her retirement in May.”

As for why she’s leaving now, Shepherd said it’s all about the number seven. “Seven in the Bible is God’s completion,” she explained. “My time on The View is complete.”

Jenny McCarthy Gets Weekly SiriusXM Radio Show
July 14, 2014
by Liz Raftery

Jenny McCarthy has booked her first post-View job. McCarthy will host her own weekly, hour-long SiriusXM radio show, she announced on The Howard Stern Show Monday.

Dirty, Sexy, Funny with Jenny McCarthy will begin its limited run on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET on SiriusXM Stars.

"It's no secret that I love to talk," McCarthy said in a statement.

"I'm excited to do it on SiriusXM without having to interrupt anyone or keep things clean. You can bet your sweet ass this show will live up to its title."

McCarthy told Stern she will use the show to showcase female stand-up comediennes. Celebrity guests will include Chelsea Handler, Perez Hilton and McCarthy's fiancé, Donnie Wahlberg.

McCarthy, along with Sherri Shepherd, confirmed last week that she won't be returning to "The View" after just one year as co-host. When asked by Stern on Monday whether she was fired from the show, McCarthy responded "yes and no."

Jenny McCarthy Thinks She Knows Why She Was Fired from "The View"
Sep 16, 2014
by Tim Surette

When Jenny McCarthy was let go as co-host of ABC's "The View" in June along with Sherri Shepherd, the network never really said why it wanted to flip the table over and basically start from scratch.

But McCarthy thinks she knows why she was fired.

Speaking with "Good Day NY" on Tuesday, McCarthy said ABC's decision to cut her loose all came down to diversity.

McCarthy said she is no longer on the show "because ABC wanted to make sure the table was diverse. So they consider when Rosie O'Donnell was coming back it was too liberal, and they wanted a conservative and they wanted a Latina, so they got Rosie Perez and their Elisabeth Hasselbeck, if you will, so that way it was a balanced table with more diversity."

O'Donnell was officially announced as returning to "The View" in early July, and Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace (the "Elisabeth" that McCarthy referred to in her quote above) were revealed as the final two co-hosts in September.

They join Whoopi Goldberg, the lone holdout from last season. Barbara Walters retired from the show last season.

"I think they might try one more year, then I think the Titanic might go down," McCarthy says. McCarthy also tells Howard Stern she was asked to return to the show.

"It's like a serial dater," she says. "Stick with one boyfriend and don't go on Tinder. Give that relationship all you've got and ride through the bumps and waves." McCarthy adds that producers need to "allow something to simmer rather than transitioning so many different things, like, change a chair, change a table, change the background, change the people."

Jenny McCarthy Says her Time on "The View" was "Like a Horror Movie"
by Christian Holub
March 20, 2019

These days "The View" is still going strong, but back in 2013-14 the storied daytime talk show was going through a rough patch. At that time the show’s creator Barbara Walters was grappling with her oncoming retirement, and power struggles were erupting between co-hosts about the future of the show.

It was at this inauspicious moment that Jenny McCarthy was hired as a co-host by ABC. In a newly-published excerpt from Ramin Setoodeh’s upcoming book Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View (out April 2nd), McCarthy compares her experience on the show to a horror movie.

“You know the movie Mommie Dearest?” McCarthy says in the book. “I remember as a child watching that movie and going, ‘Holy cow!’ I’ve never seen a woman yell like that before until I worked with Barbara Walters.”

The first time Walters yelled at McCarthy was in 2007. Not yet a co-host, McCarthy came on "The View" to discuss her book Louder Than Words: A Mother’s Journey in Healing Autism. Walters, whose sister Jackie “might have been autistic,” was disgusted at McCarthy’s claims of healing her son’s autism without vaccines and screamed at the guest in the green room ahead of taping.

“My knees were shaking. I remember my whole body was shaking,” McCarthy recalls.

McCarthy had even stranger encounters with Walters once she officially joined the show in 2013. Her hiring was met with heavy criticism related to her vaccine views, though McCarthy says, “I consider myself to be pro-vaccine, but pro–safe vaccine,” in the book.

On top of that, McCarthy says Walters singled her out for weird treatment, such as demanding control over wardrobe choices. “Barbara would check out what I was wearing. If she didn’t agree with it, or it didn’t complement her outfit, I had to change. Mind you, she doesn’t look at anyone’s clothes but mine … She wanted to start dressing like me. There were times when she’d say change, and she’d make people run out and get that dress in her size. I was a human Barbie doll.”

McCarthy also found herself caught in the middle of the retiring Walters and co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who demanded full control over moderation duties.

“The table reminds me a little bit of Survivor,” McCarthy says in the book. “There was a war between Barbara and Whoopi about Barbara wanting to moderate. This is one of the reasons I decided not to ally with Whoopi. It broke my heart when Barbara would shuffle to Whoopi and say, ‘Can I moderate please?’ And Whoopi would say no.”

A representative for ABC has declined to comment on McCarthy’s claims.

Never watch the show for more than a minute or two. Not my type of show. Was surprised of Jenny McCarthy having her wardrobe looked over. Whoopie isn't the most stylist with her billowy tops.
