TNT’s "The Last Ship" is 2014's Most-Watched Cable Premiere

TNT's "The Last Ship" drew the largest audience of any new cable show this year for its premiere Sunday night.

The action series from Michael Bay, which stars Eric Dane (Grey's Anatomy), drew 5.3 million viewers (1.5 million 18-49) for its premiere at 9/8c. Between the premiere and its 11/10c encore presentation, the show was seen by 7.4 million viewers.

"The Last Ship" was the lead-in for the season premiere of "Falling Skies" at 10/9c, which drew 3.7 million viewers.

The Michael Bay-steered "Last Ship‘s" sophomore voyage has been upped from 10 to 13 total episodes.

“The Last Ship has become this summer’s top drama among key adult demos with its epic scale and visceral storytelling, TNT programming chief Michael Wright said in a statement.

TNT’s "The Last Ship" is full steam ahead: The cable network has renewed the drama for a third season.

The series’ second season will end with a cliffhanger finale on Sept. 6. The 13-episode Season 3 will premiere next summer.

After averaging 4.4 million total viewers and a 1.1 rating during its freshman run, "The Last Ship" opened Season 2 with 2.9 mil and a 0.7, but has “stayed the course” ever since, most recently drawing 3 mil and a 0.8.
