Steve Rossi, half of the legendary comedy team of Allen & Rossi, died this afternoon of cancer at age 82 in Las Vegas. Rossi had been in hospice care since June 11.
At their peak, Allen & Rossi were among the most popular comedy teams in the country, making more than 40 appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” including three with The Beatles during the group’s breakthrough performances in the United States.
Allen & Rossi also appeared many times on such talk shows as “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” “The Merv Griffin Show,” “Dinah,” “The Mike Douglas Show” and “The Dean Martin Show.”
They spent 15 years together beginning in 1957 and made several appearances onstage together in subsequent years. They were one of the last acts to headline the Sands five months before it was imploded in 1996.
Rossi more recently was helping famed impressionist Rich Little develop a stage show at Shimmer Cabaret in LVH and frequently appeared with Pia Zadora in her cabaret shows at Piero’s Italian Restaurant.
