did you notice that in the first episode they aired on Nick At Night they lived in a different house? I never noticed that until the other day, the living room was different and everything I noticed right away when I saw the stairs. The outside shot looked the same though.

Yes, I noticed that in 1994 when I taped the pilot on FOX syndication. I think that the reason being was because of the budget. I mean notice that the original living room was a lot smaller than the living room in the 2nd episode. The kitchen was all the same though. I personally think that when the pilot was bought and the show got the green light, they thought it might have been "safe" to give the Huxtable tv family a bigger house.

I don't remember , but in the pilot episode was it established that Cliff had his office downstairs? That would probably explain the lack of the rear hallway (whish is the house access to Cliff's office)in the pilot episode.

When the show was picked up, and they got some more production money, they built a better looking set.

Often, the pilot for sitcoms have different sets. The Cosby Show with the living room and upstairs, The Golden Girls with the general layout of the house. The Brady Bunch, with the house (notice in the pilot, the girls room used throughout the series was originally located in Carol's parents' home.)

It's common for there to be slight differences between the pilot and the episodes to follow.

The pilot for Family Matters was a totally different set too. I've noticed that A LOT of shows do that in their pilots eps.

That is very true, and I have noticed that. What you may not have noticed was the living room in the pilot for Family Matters was actually the living room on loan from the show The Hogan Family. I noticed when I was watching the Hogan Family how the stairs were in the exact same place and how the living room looked so much like the living room in the Family Matters pilot. It seems that they took all the furniture of the Hogan Family's set and replaced it until the regular set was complete.

Yeah, lots of Sitcoms do that. Seinfeld...

The "Hanging with Mr. Cooper" pilot was taped on the "Growing Pains" set, and the original telecast even had a brief taped introduction with Alan Thicke and Mark Curry explaining this. It's cheaper to use a simple or existing set for a pilot, because there's no reason to build permanent sets if the show hasn't been picked up yet as a regular series. The "E.R." pilot was filmed at an actual hospital, and then sets were built when the show was picked up as a series.

Oh yeah, I definitely noticed that, but I thought they just moved on an episode I hadn't seen or something. O, and it was funny on the pilot when that guy stuck his hand out to Will, and Will slapped it, lol, I laugh at that EVERY time I see it :lol: :lol: :lol:
