View Full Version : What kind of shows do you hate?
liane49 06-17-2014, 12:26 PM Except for Dancing with the Stars I hate most reality shows. I hate relationship shows with people in their 20's. I hate anything super natural or sci fi. The only anamation I liked was King of the Hill. As popular as it was I never liked the Simpsons or any other anamation. The only late night I really liked was Jay Leno. Unless somebody I really like is on which is rare, I don't watch late night. I use to like watching Dateline until all the shows were about some murder in a small town or something.
Zoneboy 06-17-2014, 12:52 PM I detest reality shows more than anything and I'm not crazy about any sitcoms from the past 25 years. I'm more into anthology series, dramas and sci-fi.

bencasey 06-17-2014, 02:43 PM Modern sitcoms.
Dr. Loveless 06-17-2014, 03:02 PM I generally dislike:
Any series starring Lucille Ball
Prime-time soaps (Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, etc)
Pretty much any reality show, other than The Amazing Race (the exception that proves the rule)
Preachy, "socially relevant" sitcoms of the 1970s (All in the Family, MASH, Maude, etc)
1980s/1990s-style family sitcoms (Full House, Just the Ten of Us, Who's the Boss, etc)
Modern (post-1990) sitcoms
1970s Hanna-Barbera cartoons, especially all incarnations of Scooby Doo and its imitators (with the possible exception of Josie & the Pussycats, which has some nostalgia value for me). Actually, I dislike 90-95% of American cartoons made in the 1970s. For a variety of reasons, they became less fun and less exciting during this era.
Modern cartoons (except Ren & Stimpy and early seasons of The Simpsons), especially Tiny Toons/Animaniacs/Pinky & the Brain and the Disney shows. Again, I dislike most American cartoons made in the 1980s-onward, though they became generally better-drawn in recent years than in the 1970s/1980s. Most '80s cartoons debuted after my childhood (I'm from Gen-X), so I have no nostalgia for them.
1970s variety shows
Legal dramas (except Perry Mason)
Elderly sleuths (Murder She Wrote, Matlock, etc)
Sci-fi/fantasy sagas (Buffy, Star Trek: TNG/Deep Space Nine/Voyager/etc, Stagate: Everything, Hercules/Xena, Babylon 5)
Inspirational dramas (Little House on the Prairie, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Touched by a Angel, Highway to Heaven, etc)
The 999+ (and counting) modern police procedurals (CSI, Bones, Criminal Minds, etc)
Most reality type shows. My husband & son watch something called Party Down South which drives me right up the wall. I'd rather sit outside and watch a blade of grass grow as to have to watch that awful show.

70s show watcher 06-17-2014, 05:46 PM i do not like most hallmark channel movies once in awhile thay will have one that is of good quality but for the most part for mee its very sad to see good actors waste ther time and talent in such simplstic cookie cutter junk
Dude111 06-17-2014, 06:54 PM What kind of shows do you hate? 99.9% of everything on TV now!!
bmasters9 06-18-2014, 04:12 AM I generally dislike:
Legal dramas (except Perry Mason)
Inspirational dramas (Little House on the Prairie, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Touched by a Angel, Highway to Heaven, etc)
I'm glad you dislike Little House. I personally believe that such was one of the worst shows ever (unfortunately, two of my brothers strongly disagree; can't blame 'em though). As for Mason, I've seen 3.5 seasons' worth of it from the DVD releases (4.5 if you count Netflix), and I've really been enjoying it.

Mace Dolex 06-18-2014, 02:34 PM Most of the current crop of network shows are garbage and I just don't have time to see cable dramas that are popular like Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad, True Blood.
Right now the only network shows I watch are 2 Broke Girls and Family Guy most of the time I'm either watching movies or repeats of classic TV shows.
When it comes to reality shows I don't like Survivor or Big Brother, I don't care for singing contestant shows like The Voice and American Idol and I hate anything the Kardashians star in.
In fact my favorite can't miss shows right now are Guy Code, Girl Code, Impractical Jokers, The Carbonaro Effect, Ridiculousness.
Zoneboy 06-18-2014, 04:08 PM http://i.imgur.com/wtHxR1V.jpg (http://lunapic.com>)
NCIS and Castle are the only shows that have aired in the last 20 years that I watch.

Patty Duke 06-19-2014, 01:26 PM I hate Reality and modern sitcoms.
MickeyMac 06-19-2014, 01:45 PM I hate all reality shows
I hate all news discussion shows because they are not fair and balanced as they claim to be.
With the exception of MAD MEN, I hate all the show on the air right now.
Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and the truly awful True Blood you couldnt pay me to watch that garbage.
I have a deep hatred for Seinfeld
bmasters9 06-19-2014, 02:04 PM I have a deep hatred for Seinfeld
I don't know if I'll go that far, but I do strongly dislike Seinfeld. I never thought it was funny whatsoever.
Mace Dolex 06-20-2014, 04:41 PM I also hate most modern sitcoms where they think saying vulgarities to get laughs makes them funnier because it doesn't, there are kids wacthing these shows too and they're hearing mention of penises and vaginas, it just gets to the point where you want to change the channel, junk like Hot In Cleveland, Two And A Half Men, Friends With Better Lives, and 2 Broke Girls (which I can tolerate).
Times are sure different when showing less was more, Three's Company when it aired was considered racy and that show is pretty tame now, even Married With Children which had it's run in's with media watchdogs was never bordering on crass and extreme sexual vulgarities.
Kasey 06-21-2014, 11:04 AM Like most here, I hate the reality shows because they are setting a bad example for young people these days who emulate these foul-mouthed, overprivelaged cretins and think life owes them something for nothing.
Hate is a strong word, but I pretty much have no interest in anything sci-fi, soap operas, vintage westerns or B&W detective shows. I don't really care for today's sitcoms either. The only one I watch (on DVD) is Hot In Cleveland and that's mostly to see which Classic TV actors will show up as guest stars.
UMFaninMD 06-21-2014, 11:55 PM Most reality shows
Competition shows (same format, just different type of performance)
Modern sitcoms
The CSI/Criminal Minds type shows (gotten so predictable and stale)
Single story arc dramas
Any western
Any show about whiny women in New York City or some big city
Talk shows
Judge shows (except for The People's Court from the 1980's)
Count me in as another who didn't like Little House on the Prairie. For a show that was supposed to be wholesome family entertainment, many of the episodes were way too creepy and disturbing especially the "Sylvia" episode. If I had children, I would feel more comfortable showing them horror movies than LHOTP!
icecream 06-21-2014, 11:58 PM Most reality type shows. My husband & son watch something called Party Down South which drives me right up the wall. I'd rather sit outside and watch a blade of grass grow as to have to watch that awful show. :rolleyes:I've seen ads for that show, looks nasty!
bmasters9 06-23-2014, 08:10 AM I hate all news discussion shows because they are not fair and balanced as they claim to be.
FOX News makes that claim the most often, especially on the radio, and I haven't believed it, not even for a millisecond!
zypherix 06-23-2014, 08:59 AM Cutesy family sitcoms, especially those awful preachy ones with religious undertone.

bmasters9 06-23-2014, 09:37 AM Cutesy family sitcoms, especially those awful preachy ones with religious undertone.
This is partly why I never really liked Full House either. Did it have that undertone, or was it just "cutesy"?

What's wrong with Lucille Ball?
Dr. Loveless 06-23-2014, 11:59 AM What do you watch...you're reflection in the TV?
Yes. Yes, I do.
No, just kidding... I watch lots of stuff, actually... mostly a mixture of 1950s/1960s shows, a couple from the 1970s/1980s, plus a few 'premium' modern drama series from cable TV (although the few HBO/Showtime series I enjoy, I'll either rent or stream, since subscribing to those pay channels isn't nearly worth the money they're asking).
Older series I'm currently watching:
The Fugitive
Stoney Burke
Rawhide
Combat
Hawaii Five-0
12 O'Clock High
Mr. Lucky
The Saint
Dragnet (1960s version)
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Leave It to Beaver
Barney Miller
Gunsmoke (the early, half-hour version)
Captain Nice
The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Bullwinkle Show
Lights Out
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
Lost in Space
Lupin the 3rd (1970s anime series)
Cutie Honey (1970s anime series)
Current/modern shows I've been watching recently:
Ray Donovan
True Detective (just finished)
Halt and Catch Fire
Fargo (just finished)
The Wire
Dexter (just finished)
The Hour (just finished)
The Shield
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Justified
Boardwalk Empire
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Also, I watch a lot of movies; all kinds, from all eras, domestic and foreign.
'Hate' is a pretty strong word for some of the stuff I listed earlier. 'Disinterested' would be a better adjective, for many of them.
king of comedy 06-23-2014, 05:06 PM Seinfeld
Law and Order SVU (smug, arrogant, egotistical cops)
The Cosby Show I hated that mother and it was the anti male show ever created
I'll be back with more
bmasters9 06-23-2014, 06:28 PM Seinfeld
Law and Order SVU (smug, arrogant, egotistical cops)
Both of those, definitely! I never liked Law and Order to begin with, but SVU is even worse.
Tubehead 06-24-2014, 01:40 AM hey dr love less do you watch the remake of Hawaii Five-0 ? I like it a lot
Dr. Loveless 06-24-2014, 03:32 AM hey dr love less do you watch the remake of Hawaii Five-0 ? I like it a lot
No, but I may catch up with it, eventually. I'm still only part-way into season 3 of the original series, right now. Even though my "hate" list is a long one, I still, somehow, have too much left to watch!
Ryan Chamberlain 06-24-2014, 07:46 AM Family dramas with big families. Like 7th Heaven, Eight Is Enough and shows like that (Exception: American Dreams...loved that one) I cannot relate to them. I oddly like the sitcoms like that though.
James28 06-24-2014, 03:51 PM What kind of shows do I hate?
Long-running animated shows with a "sliding timescale" (such as The Simpsons and South Park)
Reality shows (such as Jersey Shore, The Kardashians, or Honey Boo Boo)
Some scripted shows consisting entirely of standalone episodes
70s show watcher 06-25-2014, 01:47 AM What's wrong with Lucille Ball?i am a big lucy fan myself but my mother has never cared much for her type of slapstick humour
king of comedy 06-30-2014, 05:22 PM I Carly, Sam and Cat and Victorious.
irehtman 06-30-2014, 06:37 PM Seinfeld, Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, Saved By The Bell, Saved By The Bell: The New Class, City Guys, One World, Nikki, Off Centre, Nash Bridges, Walker Texas Ranger, JAG.
These are the ones I hate right now.
visaman666 07-01-2014, 01:35 AM I'm glad you dislike Little House. I personally believe that such was one of the worst shows ever (unfortunately, two of my brothers strongly disagree; can't blame 'em though).
Whenever WKRP beat House in the weekly ratings, the producers would blind one of the children.
bmasters9 07-04-2014, 05:08 AM Anything about war (McHale's Navy, Hogan's Heroes).
The type of single cam sitcoms where the shots aren't properly blocked, there are weird tight frames where the camera moves around and the zoom is jagged and noticeable. I'm fine with the cinematic ones or the ones shot low-fi Tim & Eric style.
waichingliu81 07-20-2014, 02:28 PM hate is a pretty strong word, rather i either dislike them or they are just not my cup of tea. but my choices are-
current sitcoms - for the exception of hot in cleveland and instant mom. i can't get into the latest shows. it's the humour, feel of the shows which to me are nothing like the sitcoms of past generations. which i enjoyed immensely.
current children's cartoons - only one i like is steven universe.
dramas - grey's anatomy (can't believe that show is still going today) and then you look at my debbie allen avator. but i dislike this series a lot since it started. there are also too many of them on television and not enough good sitcoms
reality TV
period dramas
political shows
horror shows
crime shows
legal shows
teen dramas
soap operas
Bonniegirl 07-20-2014, 02:36 PM I don't like modern sitcoms ( I think the last sitcoms I liked were King of Queens and Friends) !
Or modern cartoons!

I feel exactly the same way about Barney Miller. That's a great show.
king of comedy 07-23-2014, 07:27 AM Your'e kidding, right? Looking at Kotter now shows how horrible it was now. I just want to go back and avoid watching it. The writing and acting are atrocious.
born2late 07-23-2014, 01:58 PM Reality shows
The View
Teen/young adult shows (ABC Family Channel)
Judge/Court type shows
Most current comedies, too predictable & not funny IMO
MickeyMac 07-23-2014, 02:50 PM FOX News makes that claim the most often, especially on the radio, and I haven't believed it, not even for a millisecond!
Actually FOX news is the only news network thats fair and balanced. They have shows and guest from the left and the right, unlike CNN MSNBC etc.
king of comedy 07-23-2014, 04:06 PM With the exception of Scooby Doo,Josie and the Pussycats and The Flintstones, all the other Hanna Barbara cartoons.
comedyfreak 08-07-2014, 06:06 AM I cannot stand What Would You do? I hope someone sues them for one of their pranks or really attacks them before they say who they are.
myowndrownedworld 08-07-2014, 11:38 AM I can't stand shows about all american perfect families. They deal with disagreements, specific issues etc but by the end, it's all wrapped up in a perfect bow and they move on with their lives smiling, hugging and kissing each other. To me it is a false representation of what a family is.
In terms of shows i do not like, they are
Anything with Lucille Ball or Bill Cosby
The Donna Reed Show
Rules of engagement
Till Death
Regulus 08-07-2014, 01:43 PM 1. "Reality" Shows :angryfire
2. News Shows - Too Depressing :(
3. ANY show that has a Political and/or Social Issue "Sermon" in their episodes (Almost Always Left-Wing).

This is why I hated The Cosby Show. I hated the wife. Always so perfect and always thinks she is right. So unreal. I've avoided that show now and wished I never saw it.

Why can't the couples who i actually LIKE end up together???
bmasters9 03-24-2016, 01:50 PM Moralizing stuff that can either political or just preachy
That moralizing stuff, mainly the preachiness, is what has made Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, and similar shows permanently ineligible for my DVD collection.

Which 99% of that seems to be the overdone regurgitated crime drama and reality shows.
Svenfan1234 05-25-2016, 09:33 AM I also hate the "Star Trek" shows.
Yong Fang 05-26-2016, 03:02 AM I live overseas and I use this to watch TV shows. It is sort of a pain in the arse, since there are lots of pop up ads and whatnot, but it is a good service for what it is, but wish the networks would just stream the damn episodes with the commercials! There are several million Americans living outside the United States.
http://thewatchseries.to/new
There are 50 new episodes on a list. Looking at the list for Wednesday, I want to watch two of those shows. Two out of Fifty. 4 percent. Literally would not care to watch the other 96 percent. For Wednesday, I wanted to watch Hotel Hell and Law and Order SVU.
The only sitcom I watch currently is Mom, and that show is fantastic. If this show is not raining with Emmy statues, then Hollywood can kiss my behind. I watch The Middle casually now, because it has jumped the shark a bit, but has somewhat taking a reverse jump. I hope next year will be their last and see one or two of the older kids get married and goofy Brick is seen as a genius and gets a scholarship at Notre Dame.
I have sixty years worth of television to watch, and a lot of these shows from the 1970's are new to me.
