"To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to," Jolie said in a statement.

"Working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine."

Jolie joins a select group of Hollywood names who've been awarded the honor, including Steven Spielberg and Bob Hope who were both knighted.

The Honours system is a ridiculous remnant from the days when my country had an Empire over which to rule and should have disappeared along with it. It is the power of patronage, which the awarding of honours on the Queen's birthday and at New Year keeps the Monarch at the pinnacle of an outdated class system pyramid,as sycophants bend and scrape to curry favour with her and thereby gain one up on their neigbours. If Angelina Jolie thinks that ISIS,Al-Shabaab and other terrorist militias are going to take one bit of notice of her anti-rape campaign however well intentioned as she smiles lovingly into Foreign Secretary William Hague's eyes on a leather Chesterfield settee in 10 Downing Street then she has been badly misinformed.
