View Full Version : Blossom coming to The Hub LTCProductions 06-10-2014, 07:22 PM http://www.nickandmore.com/2014/06/10/hub-network-brings-90s-sitcom-blossom-to-cable-for-first-time-this-july/ tlc38tlc38 06-10-2014, 08:36 PM Awesome news! I'll set my DVR to record when they start airing season 3 because I already own seasons 1 & 2 on DVD. I really wish Shout! Factory would just finish releasing the series on DVD but I'll take what I can! DJM77 06-10-2014, 09:04 PM Well there's a surprise! I thought the Hub was gonna stop airing sitcoms. Will and Grace Fanatic 06-10-2014, 09:20 PM I like the Hub they tend to air shows no other network is willing to air in re-runs. TMC 06-11-2014, 01:33 AM I'm pretty sure that this has been asked before, but why hasn't Blossom normally done better in syndicated reruns (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/blossom-returning-tv-hub-710817) (especially w/ Mayim Bialik's recent resurgence via The Big Bang Theory)? I wonder if part of the problem is the feeling that the show has aged badly (http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2013/06/25-beloved-tv-shows-that-havent-aged-well/blossom). tlc38tlc38 06-11-2014, 11:36 AM I'm pretty sure that this has been asked before, but why hasn't Blossom normally done better in syndicated reruns (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/blossom-returning-tv-hub-710817) (especially w/ Mayim Bialik's recent resurgence via The Big Bang Theory)? I don't think that being a "product of its time" is really a bad thing especially when everyone nowadays is craving nostalgia. I know I'm looking forward to seeing this show again...and some episodes for the very first time. I watched it when it originally aired but I missed a few episodes here and there. Many thanks to The Hub for letting us relive this classic. Now, bring on The Torkelsons, Small Wonder, Perfect Strangers, Major Dad, Mr. Belvedere, and My Two Dads. I think all these shows would fit nicely on the network. Heckles101 06-11-2014, 02:48 PM Damn I guess now that Disney is getting money for this show, they're going to try and wipe out Blossom from the internet! One of my favorite YouTube accounts had every Blossom episode and now it has been terminated after having existed for a couple years now. While I was proud that new people would discover this show through the Hub, I was comforted knowing that I had access to episodes unedited and without commercials. Boo to you, Disney! mets82 06-11-2014, 03:43 PM What are you going to do? Just when you enjoy something, its taken away. I will say I'm glad Blossom is coming back as well. I was shocked because I thought the Hub was fading out there classic sitcoms. factsoflife 06-11-2014, 05:38 PM This makes my day! I'll be watching for sure! I'll record every episode from seasons 3-5! Since I already have the seasons 1&2 DVD. BettyWhiteFan 07-04-2014, 03:10 PM I am setting my DVR! I hope the episodes are not too poorly edited like TV Land's programming! 90skid4ever 07-04-2014, 03:52 PM Snap! I am so excited, will be watching every night! Don't forget the marathon July 11th hosted by the cast. tlc38tlc38 07-05-2014, 12:13 PM Don't forget that season 1 starts airing this Monday (7/7) night at 10:00pm and 10:30pm. Episodes will air Monday-Thursday at 10 and 10:30pm. There's also a special cast reunion 6-episode marathon Friday (7/11) beginning at 9pm. I can't wait for season 3 to start airing! factsoflife 07-05-2014, 11:23 PM Don't forget that season 1 starts airing this Monday (7/7) night at 10:00pm and 10:30pm. A season 3 episode is airing Friday night during the marathon! I got this from the HubNetwork.com website: Monday Blossom Blossoms My Sister's Keeper Tuesday Dad's Girlfriend Who's in Charge Here? Wednesday Sex, Lies and Teenagers I Ain't Got No Buddy Thursday Thanks for the Memorex The Geek Friday Blossom Blossoms My Sister's Keeper Who's in Charge Here? Rockumentary (season 2, episode 23) The Letter (season 2, episode 32) Making of the President (season 3, episode 48) Epguides.com says the Blossom has a "pilot" episode... is it being skipped? tlc38tlc38 07-06-2014, 09:39 AM Yes, the pilot is being skipped by The Hub but it is included on the seasons 1 & 2 DVD set. BettyWhiteFan 07-08-2014, 12:24 AM Looks like The Hub is playing the full intro and ending of the show. The whole dance sequence at the beginning is there and the credits are not interrupted at the end by advertisements. I was transported back to my childhood days when I changed to The Hub today! BettyWhiteFan 07-08-2014, 04:27 PM The pilot is a special feature in the Season 1 and 2 DVD set so I'm guessing that it is one of those things that are not meant for TV because it may have been unaired during the original run. In the Full House DVD set their is an unaired pilot with a different guy playing Danny that is never played in syndication of the show. I am guessing the same thing applies to this situation 90skid4ever 07-08-2014, 06:10 PM The pilot is a special feature in the Season 1 and 2 DVD set so I'm guessing that it is one of those things that are not meant for TV because it may have been unaired during the original run. Every Sunday it looks like episodes that aired during that specific week will be aired. The show airs Monday - Friday on The Hub with repeated episodes on Sunday BettyWhiteFan 07-09-2014, 10:53 AM Sadly the pilot will never be aired because it is not the pilot that made it to air. Blossom Blossoms is the name of the official pilot that aired on TV. mets82 07-11-2014, 04:17 PM I was thinking the samething about having the opening and ending of the show in full. I'll give that about a week or two and they'll be chopping it up like everything else. I'll tell you I've watched bits and pieces of the show so far and I like it. Not only is Blossom entertaining but the guest stars have been funny too. Phil Donahue, Little Richard and ALF!! I will say that the episode that aired last night about Blossom not dating the geek that I felt bad for Blossom. I mean the geek, Fred acted like a real jerk towards her. I mean she knows she did something bad, she apologized, what more do you want? At least she apologized. tlc38tlc38 07-11-2014, 04:51 PM Looks like The Hub is playing the full intro and ending of the show. The whole dance sequence at the beginning is there and the credits are not interrupted at the end by advertisements. I was transported back to my childhood days when I changed to The Hub today! I'm hoping they give us at least one full run of the show before they begin chopping and editing. The theme song is one of my all-time favorites. I've always loved the song and dance sequence...pure classic. 90skid4ever 07-11-2014, 06:54 PM I'm hoping they give us at least one full run of the show before they begin chopping and editing. The theme song is one of my all-time favorites. I've always loved the song and dance sequence...pure classic. Would you expect them to do that? I want to know because I am currently taping all the episodes- so I want to get them on their 1st run if they are going to be complete. Also, going to be taping the marathon tonight. I agree I love the theme song, it makes me just forget everything and be happy. Totally reminds me of singing and dancing in front of the mirror to my 90s songs when I was that age. I agree with the previous poster, I am really feeling for Blossom. I feel like her dad is being extra hard on her. She's growing up and still learning. Did he really need to freak out about her going to that party the way he did? And I felt bad when he wouldn't sit down with her and his other 2 kids for those pancakes and watch those home movies. Couldn't he see that Blossom was trying to reconnect with something? Her watching them later with Six was very poignant, because that is very often how it is. Your best friends sometimes care more about you than the people who are supposed to be there. ThomasE 07-11-2014, 10:02 PM Very good discussion here. I was reluctant about this show being on the channel but am enjoying it. I am watching the marathon now. It takes me back to the Fresh Prince/Blossom Hour on NBC back in the 90's. I laughed all over again with the pilot episode with Phylicia Rashad being Blossom's mother in the dream and she shows Blossom the process for when a woman gets her period. Good scene. LOL. wildlele 07-14-2014, 06:19 PM So what ended up airing Friday? Just a few minutes of chat before each episode? Mace Dolex 07-14-2014, 07:15 PM As a casual fan of the show, I'd only watch it because it aired after Fresh Prince I can honestly say it's pretty average like many other 1990's sitcoms that don't hold up well. The show in itself was never about laugh out loud wacky antics and Joey was such an idiot, and the use of B-list guest stars in the early episodes smelled of desperation. TMC 07-19-2014, 04:03 AM Watching these episodes (at least the early episodes) now, am I the only one who notices how bad the picture quality is? I don't know if it simply has to do w/ the simply fact that the episodes are early 25 years old and shot on video tape (was Blossom mostly a fairly low budget show, at least at first) instead film. I guess the best way that I can explain it is that it seems as if the lighting is too saturated. Also, it's as if somebody smeared grease on the lens. BettyWhiteFan 07-19-2014, 04:23 AM I am so happy that the show is back that I really don't care what quality it is in as long as I can get the seasons I don't have recorded on DVD. Also remember that if you are watching on an HD TV the quality will look really bad because of the sharp picture resolution. I watch Blossom on an older TV so I don't see how bad the quality is until I go into a room that has an HD or 3D TV. 90skid4ever 07-19-2014, 05:26 AM I am so happy that the show is back that I really don't care what quality it is in as long as I can get the seasons I don't have recorded on DVD. On Sundays, they show from the beginning, so this Sunday they would be on episode 6 or 7, right? That is to say that she is the exact character that current conventional wisdom says it is both difficult and potentially boring to build a show around.” Read more at http://www.hitfix.com/tv-tattle#tf4IzHHZtZS8eeOU.99 TMC 08-04-2014, 03:52 AM I don't think that being a "product of its time" is really a bad thing especially when everyone nowadays is craving nostalgia. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101050/board/flat/232526169?p=1) Blossom was such a great show, Why such a low rating? James28 08-04-2014, 10:24 PM ^^ Obviously, the "TV-PG" warnings were added by the Hub. BettyWhiteFan 08-06-2014, 03:44 AM They were not part of the NBC broadcast. They were added by The Hub since it is a family channel and certain content needs to have a warning so people are not shocked by certain situations on a TV show. I am happy to report that the show is unedited so they are original versions and not edited for TV versions. Set your DVRs because this may not last long. I suspect in a few months that the episodes will be edited to include more commercials. LUNCH 08-06-2014, 11:51 AM Yeah,it was added by the channel, although there was no need for it in my opinion. -They didn't have that TV ratings system when Blossom originally aired. BettyWhiteFan 08-06-2014, 02:08 PM Yeah,it was added by the channel, although there was no need for it in my opinion. -They didn't have that TV ratings system when Blossom originally aired. There was a definite need for it LUNCH. Blossom can have mature themes at times and The Hub is a family channel. Do the math here. They don't want to air certain things without having a warning before the show starts. If you are recording the show to DVD or something just edit the warning out like I have done. mets82 08-07-2014, 02:52 PM There doing good so far. Uneditied shows and showing end credits. Wont last long though. 90skid4ever 08-26-2014, 11:54 PM It has been great -watching binge style right now TMC 08-27-2014, 03:52 AM That's why I'm glad I don't have an HDTV lol! Now that I've thought about it some more, it probably had more to do (the rather "washed-out" look) w/ the producers (please note that I'm just speculating) using soft-focus lensing. irehtman 08-28-2014, 04:14 PM Well Jenna Von Oy is doing way better than Mayim Bailik. Right now, I am a huge Hang Time fan rather than a fan of this show. BettyWhiteFan 08-28-2014, 04:23 PM How do you figure that Jenna Von Oy is doing better? Mayim Bialik is on a number 1 network show and is the host of the new Candid Camera show on TV Land. I say Mayim Bialik is doing better irehtman 08-28-2014, 04:45 PM Jenna has a successful marriage than Mayim's. Look what happened to Mayim recently? Mayim had a bad recent divorce. BettyWhiteFan 08-28-2014, 05:00 PM Jenna has a successful marriage than Mayim's. Look what happened to Mayim recently? Mayim had a bad recent divorce. Really? That is a very petty way to compare who has it better. More marriages end in divorce anyhow. That is nothing to look down at Mayim about! SMH! If that is what you consider as doing better then you really have a shallow scope for what life is about TMC 09-25-2014, 03:59 PM http://geekalabama.com/2014/07/08/tv-review-blossom-on-the-hub-network/ Remember Blossom? Not that Blossom from The Powerpuff Girls, that Blossom that aired on NBC from 1990-1995? Blossom was created by Don Reo, and starred Mayim Bialik as Blossom Russo, a teenager living with her father and two brothers. If you were too young to remember this classic series? Or just want to see it again, you are in luck, because the Hub Network is now airing Blossom! So let’s be honest, when Blossom was on the air on NBC, I was still in Kindergarten! So I never knew about this show since I was enjoying kid’s cartoons instead! I watched the first few episodes and I thought the show was good! Blossom is clearly growing up in a teenager world. Blossom is something that Hub Network is banking on to bring in programming to provide kids and their families with entertainment they can watch together. Yes, Blossom can include some grown up things like a woman getting her period, but this is something all girls are going to go through, and for the little kids, this is a great discussion their parents can have a chat with! The show also deals with the loss of their mother, who moves away, from the very first episode. Since more and more families have to go through a divorce, this can be a great discussion for younger kids. Future episodes will also include guest stars who Blossom frequently received advice in fantasy scenes, such as Mr. T, Hugh Hefner, Phylicia Rashad, David Spade, ALF, and Will Smith. So if you want to see some of your favorite stars when they were younger, watch Blossom! With the pick up of Blossom, I hope Hub Network will acquire and develop more shows for older people in primetime that has a family feel. Hub Network has been in the news because their president is leaving, and I have read the stories saying Hub Network will soon go away or move. I don’t believe you will see Hub Network disappearing anytime soon! But if they want to stick around, I hope I can preview and review future shows that can fit in with the network, and Blossom and Kid President Declaration of Awesome are two great shows to bring more families watching the Hub Network! James28 11-19-2014, 12:56 AM Looking at this in hindsight, I think Blossom used such terms as "slut" and "this sucks" and "boobs", and there were also references to condoms. That was probably before the usage of such terms became commonplace in television. Blackout 11-22-2014, 07:06 PM Looking at this in hindsight, I think Blossom used such terms as "slut" and "this sucks" and "boobs", and there were also references to condoms. That was probably before the usage of such terms became commonplace in television. nothing wrong with that mets82 11-25-2014, 05:59 PM I agree. I think it makes the show more real with real dialogue and its what teenagers would say. James28 02-16-2015, 11:20 PM How about this: Nick Russo said "arse", the UK equivalent of "a$$", in this line: "I can't wait until his bonny, bonny arse is back in Scotland. I already know what he's like, and I know what he wants." The line was from "Blue Blossom", which featured a Scottish guy: Carol's ex-husband, Graham (Alastair Duncan, or Neil Duncan, his full name is actually "Alastair Neil Duncan"). Svenfan1234 05-19-2017, 11:13 AM Blossom, at least to me, is a lot more "tame" than sitcoms today like The Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls. Ironic considering the lead actress is on The Big Bang Theory. And I think it wasn't just Blossom making inappropriate references. It was nearly every sitcom of the late 80's and 90's. dwayne99 05-19-2017, 11:15 AM What!!!!!!!! |
