Hi everyone,
One of my favorite episodes of "Growing Pains" was the episode "This Is Your Life," which served as a crossover episode between this show & "Gilligan's Island." Here's why: Alan Hale, Jr. guest-starred on this episode as Jonas Grumby, a cabbie youngest son Ben (Jeremy Miller) dreamt he met while undergoing a tonsillectomy. Jonas Grumby was the Skipper's real name on "Gilligan's Island," which means in the episode Alan Hale, Jr. played the same character (the Skipper) on this "Growing Pains" episode.
Alan Hale, Jr. (March 8, 1918 - January 2, 1990) made one of his final film/TV appearances in this episode after being diagnosed with Cancer during the Summer of 1987, after filming his cameo with Bob Denver in "Back to the Beach," where Bob played a bartender and Hale called him his "little buddy."
