see they have "gay characters"

Why? What purpose do they serve on a such about straight men who are trying to get a date?

And it's a shame because the lead character who starred on the other NBC show, Whitney, is very funny

what's the big deal if they have one gay character?

if you had one gay friend, does that somehow make you gay or something?

I don't get the criticism; they don't beat you over the head with the character's situation, they mostly use it as an excuse to make jokes.

I actually think it's 2 of them. But I just have no interest in watching gay characters. I feel like I was misled and was shocked when I saw the gay characters

Well...

a) Anyone can watch any show they like, regardless of who it's "geared" for.

b) Gay men are still men.

c) What's the big deal about watching gay characters?

Well, suit yourself and all, but it seems like you're limiting your watching options with that mindset. One of the great things about TV is that we can understand perspectives that aren't our own.

I'd hardly say the gay man in this show is at all "flamboyant" lol.

But lots of straight guys watch shows with gay characters. Including me! Modern Family, Happy Endings, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Archer...all shows popular with men that have gay characters.

Q) Please tell us about your character Shelly on “Undateable.”

A) Shelly is wonderful! He’s a sweetheart. He’s a bit of a space cadet. He kind of reminds me of Phoebe from “Friends.” He’s just kind of a chill guy who wants to eat candy and chill out. He has a little bit of a confidence problem though when it comes to the ladies.

whatever, he is gay
and he (Ron Funches - not the character) has been married for at least 10 years with a 9-year-old son.

well why does he sound and act gay? I thought he was a gay character and the guy who came out was his boyfriend

apparently they based the character on Ron Funches, he had a speech impediment that he has trained himself to overcome. I don't know how he "acts gay" other than the previously stated lack of confidence with women. I've only seen him on @midnight (he's hilarious) but I think he has a stand-up special coming up on Comedy Central in the near future.

The whole premise of the show is that it is supposed to be about a group of oddball weirdos that don't really fit in, so I assuming they are playing up his character and exaggerating it.

What's "acting gay?". Being gay means you're attracted to men...that's it. Lots of straight guys act a little feminine. It's not 1948, standards of masculinity have changed.
