1. Laverne and Shirley
2. Three's Company
3. Alice
4. The Brady Bunch
5. The Jeffersons
6. One Day at a Time
I've never seen a full episode of Maude, and only remember Sanford and Son, The Bob Newhart Show, and All in the Family from seeing them as a child, so I can't really rank them.

Sanford and Son. That show is still funny as sh*t 40 years later. I grew up watching that show and have seen each episode at least 10 times in my life and I just watched some episodes not too long ago. A lot of the older African American actors such as Lawanda Page (Aunt Esther, funny as sh*t), the guy who played Bubba Bexley and others were performers with Redd Foxx on the infamous "Chitlin Circuit" of the 1940's and 1950's, infamous because these great performers basically played to black audiences and could not get a wider audience (whites) until the more liberal 1960's and 1970's. Foxx and Lawanda Paige were actually childhood friends in the same neighborhood of St. Louis and were the best of friends, and Foxx himself wanted her in the production which was a great choice.
Bob Newhart Show. Very sophisticated polished program with funny characters, a show about professional middle aged adults, and the humor and friendship from these characters. Very true to life in many situations. Bob has his work friends, Emily has her neighbor friends and everyone jelled together.
All In the Family is a classic. Now it is dated, but not that much that it cannot be enjoyed. Besides it is a piece of history of the times of the early to mid 1970's and a very excellent piece of work.
One Day at a Time. I read was "Good Times" for/with white people. Sort of agree. Pretty realistic show of a mother with two teenage daughters, with the older homely daughter being a "troublemaker" while the younger "hot" daughter had her times and tribulations. There were a lot of tear jerker episodes too. In the end, Barb married Eddie Van Halen, the mother married Dr. Johnny Fever, Julie went to rehab, Schnieder disappeared. The end.
Alice was sometimes good, sometimes not. This show is what I call a "lingering show" in that it did not get a lot of buzz, but it pulled enough ratings that it stayed on for nine years. Flo was kickass. Mel was great. Beth Howland who played Vera did a great job. But the show just ran out of ideas and was sort of unrealistic. (Why that, ask)
I did not really like Three's Company that much. I bought the first season, and I am sorry, I thought the show was sort of dumb and VERY 70's. Norman Fell was great, as well as Audrey Lindsey. Joyce Dewitt was the babe of the show! But it was a weekly show of "misunderstandings" and it was unrealistic in 1970's California that a man could not live with two girls and have to pretend to be homosexual. The modern homosexual movement doesnt call the show on it because John Ritter is dead and beloved and gays in general liked the show.
Maude was Ok at times, but not a very good show in my opinion. I just did not mostly care for it. Maude was masculine, loud and combative. Her poor husband was henpecked and a coward. Her daughter was a liberated woman who gave up her goodies all the time and the grandson was stupid and ugly. Dr. Harmon was annoying and so was his wife. I do love The Golden Girls (classic).
I did not much like The Jeffersons. One of the greatest theme songs ever however. I liked most of the actors, but the show was more explicitly racist than the parent show, All In the Family.
The Brady Bunch is probably something I would not include in this list because to me it is a late 1960's show, even though it ran from 1969-74. Robert Reed complained about the show because it was not very realistic about a family with mostly teen kids of that era, with lots of idiotic subplots, the worst being Peter selling hair lotion which made Greg's hair turn green in the finale. To give my honest opinion, Sherwood Shwartz made crap TV. Gilligan's Island was one of the worst multi season shows of all time. Reed, who was a classical actor just chaffed under this clown and had enough. Cant blame him and Shwartz blamed Reed for his objections because he was gay. Maureen McCormack was a babe though.
Did not like Laverne and Shirley at all. Lenny and Squiggy blew. BUT, Laverne and Shirley in my opinion has the BEST theme song all time of any TV show. Even as a kid (and I did) would turn on the intro credits, cranked up the volume on the old 1970's RCA set and jam to that theme song. The only other theme song from the 1970's that was just as good was the Barney Miller bass jam.
Family Ties Forever! 06-08-2014, 03:05 PM I haven't seen enough 70's shows to come up with ten. So here are my top three:
The Mary Tyler Moore Show

Dude111 06-08-2014, 03:31 PM The Jeffersons
