instead of at the end of season 3?

if you have been an avid viewer/fan of the show, you were probably aware that at the end of the 3rd season, caroline and richard finally became a couple, and thus remained together until the end of the 4th and final season.

some fans like me were glad to see these two fall in love, but other fans felt it happened way too soon after their break-ups with julia and trevor, and thus, they ought to have been given more time apart, and then by the end of season 4 become a couple.

i enjoyed seeing caroline and richard together- i love them as a pairing, but the way their relationship was handled throughout season 4 by the show's writers at the time, was terrible in my opinion.

At first I was so hoping they'd get them together b/c they were so cute as a non-couple. But it seems like by the time they did they were always fighting and it just wasn't cute anymore. I got the first and second seasons as a gift and frankly I don't want the third or fourth seasons. I kind of like Del and Caroline together better after seeing what they did to Caroline and Richard. It's a shame that the show went downhill, especially when Brian Hargrove (who is married to David Hyde Pierce) was one of the writers for a lot of the show. But it's funny when I watch it now b/c I can see so many resemblances
between Caroline In the City and Frasier. Makes sense b/c they were both NBC shows.

caroline and richard argued and bickered too much, but i still love them together. i always rooted for those two to get together, and yet when they did, it felt as if the writers didn't develop those characters thoroughly and properly enough. in a way, i kind of saw caroline and richard together almost like niles and daphne, of whom i liked too. only the difference being niles unlike richard is much less pessimistic and sarcastic in character.
