Wheather you have VHS,BETA,etc... what is the earliest recorded tape you have???

The oldest one I have is a 1980 release of SILVER STREAK by Magnetic Video on VHS.....

I have The Beatles' Let it Be on Magnetic Video VHS from 1981. Unfortunately, one thing I did not notice until now, is that it is actually a reprint. After Transamerica sold United Artists to MGM, Transamerica then ordered UA to remove their name from all their 1967-1981 films. So my copy has a plain freeze-frame UA logo.

There was actually a version on Magnetic Video, released earlier in 1981, with the correct UA logo. THIS is the print I wish I owned. Unfortunately, only a handful of UA films released on home video during the early 1980's feature Transamerica logos.

I have very few VHS tapes left since I replaced most of them with dvd's. I kept this one even though I also have it on dvd:D

Media Home Entertainment was founded as "Meda Home Entertainment" by Charles Band in 1978. Is this the same Charles Band who would go on to run Wizard Video?

Also, according to my research, Welcome to Arrow Beach actually came out in 1979 on VHS/BETA. That was when Magnetic Video began licensing from Brut Productions. Brut Productions, founded by George Barrie, was only around during the 1970's. Their only big hit was a Comedy with George Segal and Glenda Jackson called A Touch of Class. Only about 13 of their 17 films were released by Magnetic Video in 1979.

Lastly, did you know that Magnetic Video's founder, Andre Blay, was the CEO of Embassy Home Entertainment? His original company used to license from Avco-Embassy from 1978-1981. For example, Magnetic Video was the first to release The Fog on home video in 1980.

And on the subject of Meda Home Entertainment, their 1978 release of Halloween on both VHS and Beta formats goes for over $100 on eBay.

Return Of The Jedi dated 1986, but an old tape I really have are some VHS tapes with episodes of Three's A Crowd from 1984 and it's still running perfectly.

I now have several tapes from 1979 and 1 from 1978

The original VHS release of "The Little Mermaid" (1990). I threw away a lot of my VHS tapes but saved this one. It was my first Video Cassette.

The oldest tape I own as far as having it the longest in my collection is The Evil Dead (HBO Cannon), it's the first tape I bought, around 1984-85.

I guess the oldest I have now is ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 (1976) - 1978 MEDA

It makes me sad how they destroyed this movie AND SO EARLY ALSO....
the 1981 media release is garbage..........I am grateful I found this MEDA of it... It is gorgeous!!!

The only VHS movies I own are a few train videos that I got in 2011 and Martin Mull's 1987 HBO special that was made in North Ridgeville, Ohio. I got the MM video from Amazon two years ago.

As far as I know VHS started in 1977 but does anyone have a pre-recorded tape BEFORE 1977? (Maybe Beta or something)
