One thing I love about the early days of Home Video was the oversized boxes some of them they would come in. Here are some examples.

Here is the very first VHS version of Ben-Hur (1959) from 1980 on MGM/CBS Video. I love how it would open up like a book.

When successor MGM/UA (following MGM's acquisition of United Artists Corporation) began in 1982, they continued the same trend for a while, as well.

Superman VHS release from WCI Home Video (original name for Warner Home Video) from 1979. Unfortunately, this one is sped-up (127 minutes, instead of 143 minutes).

The short-lived 20th Century Fox Video had oversized drawer boxes in which the tapes would be pulled from the right. Some fans have nicknamed them "Fox Drawer Box".

99 and 44/100% Dead! (1974), which recently had a DVD release from Shout! Factory.

Early CBS/Fox releases (1982-1983), were also in oversized drawer boxes, as well.

South Pacific (1958); 1983 release.

When I was a kid I always gravitated towards the big box VHS, especially in the horror section. I love the Magnum Entertainment ones.

These are two that I bought back in the 80's when one of the video store's I frequented got rid of a bunch of horror labels, both I had rented from there previously.

While it's not a movie, I have the big VHS box for The Playboy Channel's "The Best of Everything Goes!" released in 1985.

It's the only home release of the show.
