Smallville follows the adventures of a young Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) life in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas, during the years before he becomes Superman. The first four seasons focused on Clark and his friends' high school years. Since season five, the show has ventured into more adult settings, with some characters attending college and an increase in the introductions of other DC comic book superheroes and villains.

After 5 seasons...CLARK finally reveals his secret to Lana who fully embraces him and the loving couple are reunited as he proposes to her.
Only to promptly get not slapped but bitch-slapped because everything Clana shippers had hoped for was happening even though we knew how it would truly end up by the end of the series..it was perfect because this was Smallville this was far before he is to become superman so we shippers are all brimming with happiness because this means that while they may not get married they will at least be together through to the rest of the series since this is again Smallville and not superman.
BUT NOPE
We get super bitch-slapped by not only having Lana die...which is slap 1 , Clark then goes back in time and undoes EVERYTHING not simply undoing Lana's death no no they went back to the very beginning of the episode and put Clark BACK into where no one wanted him to be back and that's completely hiding his secret once again from Lana thus giving absolutely no hope whatsoever of any sort of happiness here...and then to pile onto the slap they give a whole nation full of fuel to the Lana haters by basically saying that by Clark loving Lana .....here we will instead take his father from him.
So to recount
Clark reveals secret to Lana after 5 seasons HOORAY happy couple
Clark proposes and Lana says yes DOUBLE HOORAY!
Lana then dies
Clark reverses time and everything since the very beginning of the episode thus negating any happiness for Clana Shippers
Clark loses his father thus essentially putting the blame on his relationship with Lana
The 1st slap was Lana not staying dead. That would have been so great. And we wouldn't have had Lana bringing season 8 to a complete dead stop, Clark willing to kill Lex because he couldn't be with Lana, and Clark basically settling for Lois because he couldn't be with Lana.
The biggest slap is Clark Kent willingly trading a life for another. He was told by Jor-El that if he brought back Lana, someone would die because the universe maintains a balance. He still valued one person's life over another person's. This is Superman doing that. It was FLIPPING BS that we were expected to swallow. Superman is the moral compass of all superheroes, and they had him do that.
