Fox Orders Israeli Game Show "Boom!"
Apr 7, 2014
by Robyn Ross

Fox has ordered the new game show "Boom!" to series, the network announced on Monday. The project comes from the joint venture between Israel's Keshet and Dick Clark Productions.

"Boom!" features a team of four players who must defuse eight replica bombs by cutting through colored wires representing multiple choice trivia questions. If the players answer correctly, the prize money builds and the players move on to the next "bomb."

The series just became the highest-rated game show launch ever in Israel.

"Boom! is a perfect blend of family entertainment and Fox attitude," Simon Andreae, Fox's executive vice president of alternative entertainment said in a statement.

"Never has a ticking clock been so ingeniously placed at the center of a game, and never has a game more inventively borrowed from the language of a thriller. It's as if Jack Bauer made brain love with Jeff Foxworthy."

I have noticed many recent TV game shows in the United States were based on TV game shows from other countries. I wonder why there have been so many of them?

Possibly because America is running out of ideas.

I'll be shocked if this makes it on air before it gets kicked off due to bad taste.

Fox Unveils Summer Schedule with "Boom!"
by Lisa de Moraes
March 9, 2015

Fox this morning announced the premiere for new series "Boom!" which will be hosted by comedian Tom Papa.

We haven’t heard much about "Boom!" since last April, when Fox announced the series order just days after the Israeli gameshow format was taken out on the global marketplace.

Back then, Fox’s then EVP Alternative Simon Andreae called it “a perfect blend of family entertainment and Fox attitude…It’s as if Jack Bauer made brain love with Jeff Foxworthy.”

Today some might call it “tone deaf.”

In round numbers, "Boom!" is played like this: a squad of four players tries to defuse eight fake bombs by answering trivia questions correctly with a tight time limit. The multiple choice responses are represented by different-colored wires. If the nominated player “defuses the bomb” by getting an answer right, the prize money builds and the contestant moves to the next device.

Fox forgot to say back then what happens if the player gets the wire wrong, or runs out of time, but, our Nellie Andreeva noted back then that, in the original Israeli format, the bomb explodes, spewing material across the studio and shaking the set.

On the bright side, the team loses just one player per exploded bomb while, sadly, forfeiting 25% of the potential prize money.

Fox's Official Announcement:

Combining high drama and high stakes with high comedy in a fun-filled, trivia-charged, slime-soaked, entertainment explosion, new quiz show Boom!, hosted by comedian Tom Papa (The Marriage Ref), premieres Thursday, June 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

From Keshet DCP, "Boom!" is a general knowledge quiz show that challenges teams of three players to defuse a series of ticking slime-bombs, by dramatically cutting the wires relating to the correct answers and leaving the wrong answers untouched.

Get it right – and the players win big money. Get it wrong or run out of time – and, after a tense countdown, the players – and portions of the audience – are showered with anything from “guacamole” to “mashed potatoes,” forcing the players out of the game.

I liked the general idea except the exploding liquids and the name. Boom sound like bomb to go off and in this world no one to hear BOOM.
