Bob Larbey, co-writer of hit television comedies The Good Life, Ever Decreasing Circles and A Fine Romance, has died aged 79.

Together with John Esmonde, Larbey formed one of the most successful television comedy partnerships of the last 50 years.

The pair first worked together on radio, making their TV breakthrough with school comedy Please, Sir!.

A string of hits followed including The Good Life, Get Some In!, Ever Decreasing Circles and Brush Strokes. Larbey’s only solo credit was A Fine Romance, starring Judi Dench in her first television sitcom.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Bob Larbey...while Dame Judi Dench made her Britcom start in "A Fine Romance," it was his writing for "As Time Goes By" that endeared her to many a Yank like me!

Very much saddened to hear this news It has been one of my goals recently to watch every episode he wrote or co-wrote as I am very much a fan.

Now more poignant than ever to watch the short clip of his interview as he emotionally explains how he would end the Mulberry series had he been allowed.

His work will be loved forever.
