View Full Version : The New Zap2it TV listings suck! I recommend Titan TV as a replacement.

Zap2it today did a horrible remake of their TV listings. I had my favorite channels set so they would be at the top, now it's just in channel order and a lot of my favorites are in triple digits. looks like more ads too and probably other bad changes. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as Zap destroyed their message boards a few years ago but I loved the TV listings they had, until it was ruined today.

Yep, all my customized listings are gone and now youcan't do anything but view all channels in numerical order. I'll be finding another site to view TV listings.

Also the listings only go one week in advance now instead of two. Shame on you Zap2it for fixing what wasn't broken! I'm going to unlike their Facebook page, any TV listings sites that are worth using?

I used the What to Watch feature daily to set the DVR in the morning because I found TV Guide's to be lacking. But now that's unavailable. I guess no more Zap2it for me.

I stumbled on a fix; it seems yahoo has taken zap2it's old system over.
Try

http X : X // X tvschedule. X zap2it. X com X / X tvlistings X / X ZCGrid.do?aid=tvschedule

(You'll have to piece the link together by removing the " X "s; I can't post a real URL here until my 6th reply.)

Edit: The site now has occasional popup ads, but that's a small price.

Edit, in response to Sal: This can be very easy. Copy the link above into a text editor and delete all
" X " (without the quotes but with the spaces); there's the link. Notepad does fine for this.
Your Toronto Sun link yielded a list in the old Zap2it format and recognized me and my preferences, but it only filled the left 2/3 of the page width, having ads on the right-side third. Since I normally use the 6 hours per page format, it's too squeezed to work well. Were you able to widen the display to full-screen?
I also tried my local paper, Boston Globe, but their display wasn't in the Zap2it format.

I think I found an easier way. Go to your local newspaper's web site (in my case, it would be the Toronto Sun (http://affiliate.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do?aid=torosunb0l) ) and find the TV listings page. It should look like the "old" Zap2It.com format.

If you want to use my SUN link, go to where it says "Change My Location" and click it, then type in your zip code (US) or postal code (Canada) and you should be fine.

If you don't like the new Zap2it site, there are other alternatives that you can try instead. Which one do you prefer?

Zap2it (http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings?aid=zap2it)

LocateTV (http://www.locatetv.com/listings)

TV Guide (http://www.tvguide.com/Listings/)

MSN (http://tv.msn.com/tv/guide/)

TitanTV (http://www.titantv.com/)

Yahoo (http://tvschedule.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do?aid=tvschedule) (features old Zap2it format)

TV Tango (http://tvtango.com/listings/2014/04/06)

TV Tango has a great feature where you can change the dates on the top of the page, then press GO and see what was playing in the past on that date in prime time. It's a lot of fun if you're a TV history fan!

For more specific and specialized listings, try these:

Antenna TV (http://tvschedule.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCSGrid.do?stnNum=70248&channel=15&aid=tvschedule)

Me-TV (http://tvschedule.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCSGrid.do?stnNum=70436&channel=70&aid=tvschedule)

If you have onscreen cable guide, OK go ahead and use it. Don't worry about zap2it.

Yes, Nick at Nite is in Nickelodeon channel. Nick at Nite runs 8PM-7AM. Nickelodeon 7AM-8PM.

And zap2it tvschedule keeps it up to date on schedules faster than tvguide. Nick at Nite change just updated 2 days ago I believe when May begins.

I live in southwestern Ontario and just recently changed to antenna from Shaw. Tried getting TV listings from both Zap2it and Canada.com. Both showed me only the analog stations within reach, no digital. So I wrote to both and received a reply only from Canada.com. After a few days exchanging emails and them saying they fixed it, (showed me all of 3 channels, all analog and all over 100km away), I asked if it would be possible to have their program list ALL the channels, both digital and analog, within a certain radius of the viewer's postal code, which is what they go by. Looks like they changed it. As of this morning, their listing for my postal code shows 31 channels. I live about 60 miles from Detroit and US stations are included. I didn't check it out enough to see if you can look at the next day or week(s), but you can scroll through the whole current day, which I found Zap2it didn't let me do.

Hello Annette! Welcome to the group! It's always nice to have another Canadian on here. I think I can fix your problem. Use these links with your own postal code and they should work fine:

They had an older listings site where you could rank your favorite channels in order, and you could see them starting from the most to least important for you. On the listings they kept, channels you have favorited just go in channel order.

I understand now. I went on it before and tried to get a certain channel but I couldn't. Btw, did you know that when you search for a certain program, you can't do that. You search a certain program and then the show or movie drops down and you have to click on that.

They seemed to changed the TV Guide grid!! I had it bookmarked to show all the Antenna TV channel listings and now when I click the bookmark it's a regular TV listing grid.

The old format had all show listings vertically you can scroll down to about 2 weeks ahead with all episode titles showing. Now it's a horizontal grid without episode titles anymore.

I'm so upset because the old format was so easy to scroll and read. This is a huge jumbled mess. I hate when internet sites "update" their pages when nothing was wrong with them to begin with! :(

So now that Zap2It has been zapped, it's time to find some good alternatives. Titan TV is good if you live in the US, but it's all but useless when finding Canadian channels. So the best thing to do is find a guide that works equally well in both cases. One that I've found that looks good is called ON TV Tonight and this is what it looks like:

ON TV Tonight - US (https://www.ontvtonight.com/guide/)

ON TV Tonight - Canada (https://www.ontvtonight.com/ca/guide/listings/TorontoNight.html)

Another new one that I have found is called simply TvTv. This is also available for both Canada and the US:

TvTv.us - Buffalo, NY (https://www.tvtv.us/ny/buffalo/lu20516)

TvTv.ca - Toronto, Ont. (https://www.tvtv.ca/on/toronto/lu36625D)

After playing around with the settings on the new Zap2it guide. I finally got it to where it's bearable for me.

You can "star" your favorite channels so the grid will only display the channels you want to see which is great. The only one I care about if Antenna TV so when I click on the bookmark now, I instantly get the grid of the day's Antenna TV shows and clicking on the show still gives episode info which is great!

Three things I hate about it though....It's displays the shows in horizontal format rather than vertical which is easier to read, but i'll deal with it. The 2nd thing is that I have to keep resetting my time zone to Eastern every time I access it. Otherwise it auto reverts to Western time. Ugh.

Third is that you have to use a drop down menu to access future dates where the old grid you simply scrolled down the page. You still get to see episode lists up to 12 days in advance, so I really can't complain.

I still miss the old version, but I can get by with this new one.

I was prepared to dismiss it entirely because it only carries US listings, but then I discovered one of its many neat features that other services like Zap2it doesn't have, and that is that you can add or subtract as many custom channels as you want. It doesn't matter whether they are Canadian or American. As long as you know the name (Antenna TV), channel number (2 or 2.1) or call letters (WPIX), you can make it part of your schedule with a few simple steps:

1. Click on the red briefcase logo to go to "My Channel Lineups". Once there, go to the button that says "Edit Channels" and press it.

2. Now look for the button that says "Add Channels" and click it.

3. It gives you two options. Take the first one "Add Channels By Name".

4. Type in the channel you want to add (ex. CHCH).

5. Fill in any info on the boxes that will show you how you want the channels to be displayed on the grid.

6. Press "Add Channel" at the bottom of the page and you're done!

To remove a channel from your lineup, pick the one you want to delete and press "Remove", then say "Yes" when it asks you "Are You Sure?".

This is the custom lineup that I came up with:

Another feature that is sure to come in handy in the next few days is where for each channel you can look ahead to what they will have scheduled for up to 14 days. So if I want to see what Antenna TV will have on in January, I can find out a couple of days before Christmas and the info will be right there. I might even be able to tell you before they do! This is how it looks:
