Friends with Better Lives - Mondays at 8:30PM ET/PT on CBS
Premieres Monday, March 31, 2014 at 9:00PM ET/PT

As we come of age, we all think that we're the ones suffering, and it's our friends who have the better lives. So, naturally, that would be the premise of the latest sitcom on CBS, Friends with Better Lives. The series follows a married couple (Andi and Bobby), a divorced man (Will), a soon-to-be-engaged couple (Kate and Lowell), and the eternally obnoxious one who finds the flaws in everybody (Jules). So who really has the better life? That's what this CBS series tries to answer, in sitcom form.

The comedy starring James Van Der Beek and Kevin Connolly has "a professional, even a grim efficiency to the jokes," says Robert Lloyd, "which approach like B-52 bombers, drop their punch lines and head back to base. There are breast jokes, genital jokes, a long oral sex joke, an alcoholic-sorority-girl-defecating-in-a-closet joke. A few hit, many miss. The war goes on." PLUS: The pilot is so awful (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/31/arts/television/friends-with-better-lives-a-new-sitcom-on-cbs.html?ref=television&_r=0) it has nowhere to go but up, it's wrapped in 100 percent market-proven cardboard humor (http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/tv/cbss-friends-with-better-lives-better-than-dead-air-but-not-by-much/2014/03/30/a5535f9c-b6b5-11e3-b84e-897d3d12b816_story.html), and what Van Der Beek learned (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/james-van-der-beek-lessons-680947) from "Don't Trust the B---."

It'll last until the Fall when something else takes it's place although I doubt it will be better.
