View Full Version : ME-TV question I would like answered, thanks in advance (hopefully LOL)
ohmrwilson 03-25-2014, 07:45 AM I don't understand what I keep reading about Me-Tv.
Is Me-TV going to be on a regular cable channel on Cablevision in the NY/NJ metropolitan area?
I keep reading it might be on 3.2, but please, can someone tell me on Cablevision, what channel will that be on (or where?
Will it be in the 300 numbers on the digital channels?
Or some other higher number?
And when is it going to start?
I called cablevision and the person who answered had no idea what Me-TV is
(she kept referring to antenna and tv land.)
Thanks.
(and what will the east coast call letters be? K is for the west, not the east, isn't it usually starting with W?)

Here is a recent article on the launch- hopefully it will address all your questions :)
The agents of Cablevision have no clue as to what you are even asking- best to search out the info yourself on line.

Becca3557 03-25-2014, 11:53 AM We have Verizon FIOS in the Philadelphia suburbs and Me-TV is now on HD channel 502, and is supposed to be available "soon" on SD channel 2. The SD date has changed at least 4-5 times and no sign of it yet. On the other hand, Comcast has had it available in both SD and HD almost immediately after the switch-over. My mom has an SD set and greatly enjoys that network. She is not happy.......and I'm sure she has lots of company.
tvfreak1987 03-25-2014, 08:46 PM Becca -Have you tried SD ch. 2 yet? It's supposed to launch there today.

Yes, as luck would have it, I am not working today and I've checked a few times, even re-booting my mom's STB. No luck.

Becca3557 03-26-2014, 07:35 AM As of this morning, Me-TV is on channel 2 on Fios, VHO8 in Philadelphia. Channel is not appearing on program guide yet.
Becca3557 03-26-2014, 07:17 PM Someone at FIOS goofed. The SD channel reads HD on the screen and the SD box can't read it. The regular HD channel (502) is fine. Seems to be an issue in our area. Picture on SD with no sound and a lovely error box blocking the center of the screen. Yikes!

stupid question???
what is SD and how does one get sd on a digital cable box?
Becca3557 03-27-2014, 08:03 PM stupid question???

SD is Standard Definition vs HD for High Definition. My mom has an older TV that is not HD, like the flat-panel screens that are available in lots of different sizes. At the time she switched to FIOS, SD set top boxes were still available. They seem to be a somewhat rare commodity as a pretty high majority of folks seem to prefer the newer technology. So if you switch to an HD channel on an SD set (using an SD box), there is no signal. The quality of the picture on my mom's 27-inch Zenith is excellent, but that doesn't really matter to her ---- she just wants the channels she is paying for! ;)
ohmrwilson 03-28-2014, 04:50 AM still do not seem to have it here, the wait continues.
Becca3557 03-28-2014, 11:41 AM The issue in my area seems to have been resolved. I still don't understand why a channel with classic TV is also on an HD channel (not sure why we need both), but at least the channel is back.
tvfreak1987 03-28-2014, 11:17 PM Likely because the OTA version of KJWP is transmitting in HD, even if Me-TV actually isn't HD.
Becca3557 03-29-2014, 01:20 PM Yes, the difference is rather startling depending, I guess, on the screen size. Actor close-ups are in-your-face huge.
