On the 4th of this month, I posted a thread called "John Rogers". The main theme of this thread was the fact that the second and last child of the world famous Fred Rogers was born the same years as this show's Kari Michaelsen. The year that these two people were given life was 1961. This is one of the few threads that I have posted that actually sparked a reply! Well, I would now like to tell you guys about yet another event that took place that year! A couple of nights ago, want of something better to do caused me to look up "Woody Woodpecker" on the internet. I learned that he was first introduced 1940. That means that next year he will be seventy-five years old! As the years progressed, he changed with the times. The situation was very similar to the situation in which Mickey Mouse, Buggs Bunny and Popeye changed over the years. As the years progressed, Woody's character became more refined in both appearance and mannerisms. Well, as I was doing my research, I came upon a cartoon that came out in 1961! It is called "The Bird Who Came to Dinner". Even though I did not know the title of this cartoon, I remember the story line. It starts with a street vendor selling windup woodpeckers. A rich woman decides to buy one for her son Reginald. Woody hoodwinks this lady into thinking that he is a bigger version of the toys that this man is selling. She then gets into her limo and brings Woody home to her delinquent son Reginald. He looks at Woody as one more thing that he can abuse. However, his abusive ways are no match for Woody's wit and creativity! A typical and highly predictable case of poetic justice!
