For example on NewsRadio during the episode "Space", the theme song was changed to an outer space version of the tune and the images were changed, too. They did the same for the episode "Sinking Ship" where they made a special Titantic theme.

Community has also done this on occasion for their holiday episodes and many "high concept" shows.

That '70s Show has also done it for - at least their Christmas episodes. Maybe more, I can't remember.

What are some others?

The Simpsons (they often changed the gag visuals at the end of the intro every episode) but on The Treehouse of Horrors eps., they changed the intro visuals to reflect on the fact that you're about to watch a Halloween-themed Simpsons episode.

Psych does such an awesome job of it too! (by the way, the series finale last night and the after show event was totally awesome!:) - I love this series! One of the very few current shows that I like- and sadly, it's now off the air. Maybe they'll do a reunion movie in time though...)

When Days of Our Lives was doing its Salem serial killer storyline in 2004 they used a more dramatic, orchestral version of their theme song.

Unfortunately? That pilot was absolutely terrible. Maybe you fell asleep during and were entertained by a dream you had.

The Redd Foxx Show had a special version of the opening for the episode with Carroll O'Connor, but that was done both to showcase the guest star and to remove the billing for the freshly out-of-work girl playing the foster daughter.

Similarly, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton insisted on a modified opening that credited them for their appearance in Here's Lucy.

A season three episode of "Julia" (entitle "Cool Hand Bruce") featured Bob Hope in the opening credits but his credit replaced Marc Coppage's credit (Julia's son Corey) for that one episode. It worked out I guess as Marc Coppage did not appear on that episode.
