Frank Nelson frequently appeared as game-show host Freddie Fillmore on "I Love Lucy," but his first real success came on the Jack Benny radio program in the 1940s and 1950s, where he perfected his snarky, sarcastic characterization (usually as a harried waiter, bank teller, etc). His was one of the voices you'd recognize no matter what radio show (or TV show) in which he was featured.

He also played a cop on the show. It was the episode where Fred and Ricky were busy watching the fight as was everybody else and Lucy went to get some change and got arrested. He played the sergeant, I believe.

This portrayal that was used bv Frank Nelson on I Love Lucy, Jack Benny, etc. has just been used for an un-named person in the Gasoline Alley comic strip.

He was also on Sanford and Son. He was funny!! Is he still alive?

He's also in the episode where they come back from Hollywood on the train, he plays the conductor.

Correct, he didn't just play Freddie Filmore. In fact, he appeared in one role or another in every season of I Love Lucy, including as Connecticut neighbor Ralph Ramsey. He was Freddie Filmore in S1 and S3; in the episode you mention, and also as a waiter, in S2; as a TV host in "Million Dollar Idea" in S3; as the talent scout in S4; as a train conductor and then customs official in S5; and Ralph Ramsey in S6. I may be missing one or two others. He also appeared in the first L-D Comedy Hour, and played a train conductor again on S1 of TLS.

Frank Nelson passed away in 1986 at the age of 75.

He was a great character actor; always a hoot. May he R.I.P.
