Has anyone watched the Season 5 DVD yet? I have. I've only watched a few episodes but I've noticed something VERY different about this season versus the previous seasons: the background music. I don't like it at all. I guess I never noticed how good the background music was before, but it is very noticeable that it's different in this season. I did a little research and found this on Wikipedia:

Early episodes had instrumental music by Fred Werner and the prolific Alexander Courage, but the show's real musical stamp came from veteran composer Earle Hagen, who had a knack of composing memorable cues as he had previously been the in-house composer on The Andy Griffith Show. He composed a beautiful love theme for Tom and Abby, a theme that permeated the show in various incarnations throughout the remainder of the series. Some later episodes were scored by John Beal and Miles Goodman.
In 1980 there was a writer’s strike in Hollywood, and one of the off-shoots of this industry problem was making cost cutting measures in the music department on the show. Some of the later episodes were tracked with a combination of uncredited library music and with some original music by those of the aforementioned Messrs. Hagen, Beal, and Goodman.


I didn't even know Tom and Abby had a love theme but as I thought about it a bit, I knew exactly what music was Tom and Abby's love theme. It was beautiful. Anyway, sadly, the background music does affect my enjoyment of Season 5. Maybe it gets better as the season progresses. :(

I had a few S#5 eps taped from syndication in the 80s. Just borrowed S#5 from the library and am in TV heaven. Not sure if I'll buy S#5 when I can borrow it for free. But I love the show so much that I might.

Not too long ago I bought the complete series DVD's of the Family TV show from the Mantronix Retro TV website. Then later on I started thinking that I should also have Eight Is Enough on DVD, so recently I bought the full series DVD's, ordered them from Amazon. It's good to have DVD's of both these shows and I can watch episodes anytime on the TV.

Looking at the DVD reviews of Eight Is Enough here at Sitcoms Online, seasons 2 through 5, it appears that most of the episodes that play in two parts have run times that are a little short, so maybe those could be slightly edited. Also not sure about a possible edit in the very first episode, the pilot from season 1. Aside from that, episodes seem to be complete.
