"Raising Hope" Canceled, to End Its Run in April

The Chances have run out of chances.

Fox has announced that "Raising Hope" will end its run on April 4, with a one-hour finale.

“On behalf of myself, Greg Garcia and Raising Hope‘s amazing cast and crew, I would like to thank our audience for tuning in and supporting us over the last four seasons,” executive producer Mike Mariano said in a statement.

“We planned our Season 4 finale with this possibility in mind, and hope our loyal fans enjoy the way we’ve chosen to say goodbye to the Chances and to Natesville. Thanks again, and we’ll see you in syndication.”

The hour-long series finale kicks off at 9/8c with 'How I Met Your Mullet', in which guest star Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey) plays Jimmy and Sabrina’s new maid.

Then, in 'The Father Daughter Dance' (airing at 9:30), Virginia’s dad (returning guest star Jeffrey Tambor) returns to Natesville with a big surprise for her and Burt — including a musical performance by Kenny Loggins.

I really enjoyed this show, and watched it on HuluPlus, normally. Definitely sad to see it canceled! :(

She says of her role on the Fox comedy : “There were things about doing that character every week — every day — that were incredibly freeing and confidence-building and gave me a new relationship to work, and how to work, and how to be present and available and game. I will miss it. But I cannot complain. I don’t feel in any way robbed of anything. Do you know what I mean?”

I'm going to really miss it. I enjoyed seeing many of the cast from My Name Is Earl as guest stars over the years.

Why can't they take it to another Network like they did with Cougar Town??

As Phil Dyess-Nugent put it, "In an age of ambitious, sometimes pretentious TV, 'Raising Hope’ never made any grand promises, but over the course of four uneven but honorably entertaining seasons, it actually delivered a lot. It’s one of the few contemporary shows that depicts working class people as decent and worthy of an audience’s time without ever getting misty-eyed, and it proved that Garret Dillahunt, previously best known for playing multiple despicable characters on ‘Deadwood' and impersonating Jesus on that “controversial” NBC thing that was canceled during its first commercial break, is one funny son of a bitch.” PLUS: “HIMYM” finale vs. “Raising Hope” finale (http://popwatch.ew.com/2014/04/04/raising-hope-how-i-met-your-mother-and-the-obligation-of-a-legendary-finale/).

Dads got cancelled?

I guess that is why I have not seen an episode for awhile. That sucks, that was a good series.

Raising Hope WAS good at first, now I cannot get through a whole episode, because it has gotten really stupid. Besides the son and his Linda Rondstat looking wife live in a nice house, which sort of took away the crux of the series, a poor family trying to make it.

I blame the time slot change for their demise, Fridays are a bad night for tv.

Another Greg Garcia show.

Started out to be fantastic, funny, original show. Then it just loses it and just sucks so bad at the end it is not worth watching.

If Mr. Garcia is out there, let me give you some advice. Gene Roddenberry thought up Star Trek. But the guy did not write for Star Trek and especially for the successor series, he let others take the reins and he took a back seat.

My Name is Earl was one of the most original series to come out in 20 years. The first and into the second season, it was gold, then the third season was a complete fail (Earl in prison instead of the original idea of him making amends to people), sort of got its footing back the fourth year and was cancelled.

Raising Hope was about the same. Fantastic first year, good second year. When the kids were married and they moved into the nice house, the show lost what it was. Completely. Burt and Virginia were also complete childish idiots. It went to crap like Earl did.

I bring up Trek and Roddenberry because I think you are great for a big picture of what your show wants to be, it starts great and then goes to crap. Bring the ideas, put your name on it and let others go forward.

Also, thank you for bringing Martha Plimpton back on TV. She was a Gen X rat packer and great to see her in this, and hopefully she will be in other stuff because of this series.

I blame the time slot change for their demise, Fridays are a bad night for tv.

Fox screwed the show the minute they moved it from Tuesdays. Raising Hope, New Girl, Mindy Project, and Brooklyn 99 could have been a killer comedy line up if Fox hadn't screwed (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/ScrewedByTheNetwork/LiveActionTV) with scheduling.

At the end of the day, it got cancelled simply because Fox didn't know what to do with it. Beyond the first season, they barely told you the show was on and kept changing its time.
