Why wouldn't they have a budget if there was some income coming in even though it may not have been much?

So that's was a problem right there with how the Evans couldn't manage the little money they had LOL

The only time there is no budget is when there is NO INCOME

I guess Florida didn't bother handling the finances from what little James made. Sometimes James had at least two jobs. Florida should have been putting some money aside for bills and food.

Exactly, you have to put something to the side or stick to a number from the flow of cash that is coming in.

even if it's $5 a week

No wonder they were always broke! Florida sucked at managing the finances. Since the husband was earning the money, it was Florida's responsibility to handle bills and stuff. But she didn't do squat.

"Child, we got no budget" sounds like the episode with the blind encyclopedia sales man. Their phone was disconnected in that episode. Poor Wilona was taking messages for all the Evans kids on her phone.

yeah that was the one, and why even buy the books if you know money was tight?

Just like me right now, I need a haircut but the money is not there so I have to wait for 2 weeks from now lol

The only reason they bought those encyclopedias is because James felt bad for the blind man. I liked when J.J. said "I'll make the extreme sacrifice and give up my weekly Big Mac."

Couldn't they just had gone to the Library to read about Black History?

That was truly a stupid spending move

It should been a budget. Lol. Everytime I go in the market I stick to a number and do everything I can to stay under it.

They didn't have a budget because they did not have that much money to budget. If you're only having meat once a week then you're just getting by.

if there is a monthly income of $1000, you adjust your life to what the flow is.

That means getting back to the basics, food, shelter, and bills

Things would need to be eliminated like cable, car, eating out,

That's right, take it out! What's the use of having such a funny line in there, it is only a sitcom after all....

We are talking about Good Times. They were just getting by, they could barely pay their rent and put food on the table. When you take one chicken and make it last a week, that was Florida's way of budgeting. You're talking as if they were middle class. They did the best that they could just to keep a roof over their heads. They were just keeping their heads above water, making a way when they could lol.

Mmm-Hmmm...those "temporary layoffs" will do it to you every time. Them "easy credit ripoffs" are so deceiving. Ain't we lucky we got them...Buenos tiempos.

For me, my car was paid off years ago. I didn't eat out unless it was really inexpensive but my cable was prominent in my home especially since I didn't do any outings. However, for a looong time, I had no cable but then got it back. I still live on a budget but my cable triple play (phone, cable and internet) take priority. I cut out about $300.00 from the expenses by ridding my self of a storage unit and the two cell phone accounts with a certain phone company and my monthly credit report subscription.

Now, keep in mind that the Evans' didn't have any of that stuff....except for the children's splurging on BIG MACS. LOL.

Actually, its one of the first reality programs with an upbeat laugh track.

I agree with you that it was a FUNNY line. Esther Rolle delivered that with such comedic timing. She was like "Girl you lost your mind or something?"

They had a household income that they were able to manage the little funds they had. You never saw the ep when james finishing paying the bills they had money left over and he told Florida she can do something silly with it since all the bills were paid?
