1. In the checkup when he slammed the chair against the wall in front of his family

OR

2. When he was on way to a Job interview and decided not to go because he felt that it was no point

  I say it's a tie

I would pick option number two. James had no good reason for ditching that job interview. He made me very disappointed in him.

When James threw the chair, he was having an emotional and medical breakdown, so there was some excuse for his behavior. Having said that, I think he could have handled things more rationally. I'm just glad it was a chair that he threw and not one of his kids or his wife. Still, it must be unsettling to see your father act like a maniac. That was not good.

I'd also say option #2 though I really can't blame him, because of how thing are in our present time. I get kind of discouraged myself.

James was unmotivated and he had a quitters attitude.

I know since they did call him in they had to be somewhat interested

Exactly! James is the one who wasted THEIR time by not showing up. Shame!

I have to say #2. He should have just gone to the interview. At least, out of courtesy. They wouldn't have bothered with him if they weren't interested.

I wouldn't have given up like that.

Some parents do that though. They go out for a pack of cigarettes or a carton of milk and never come back.

I vote for number two. James was so beaten down, he couldn't even hope to do better.

In James's defense, in the tag scene, he did say that they gave him another fish chance at a job interview, and promised to actually go this time. :)

You guys also have to remember that things were a lot different for black people back in the 70's. They didn't have all these laws that they have today, and they could get away with not hiring someone because they were black. James had probably expirienced this many times before and didn't wanna go through the dissapointment again.

any black person who used that dumb a$$ excuse for not being hired was probably not employable anyway

James could have at least tried or shown some effort. How could he know he would be disappointed if he didn't try? He just gave up like a beaten dog... like a loser. He made a loser's decision by not going to that interview.
