Watch a young, bare-chested Matthew McCounaughey try entirely too hard to look like he's in the throes of death.

On the positive side, at least the segment he had that reenactment role in was instrumental in rooting Larry Dickens' murderer out of hiding.

McConaughey's actually a huge favourite to win "Best Actor" at the Academy Awards this weekend, so I think it would be pretty neat to see a guy who started off as an "Unsolved Mysteries" re-enactor take home an Oscar. Whatever you think of McConaughey, he's really stepped up his game and delivered a lot of memorable performances these past few years.

It's interesting to note that the reverse scenario has actually happened too. When he was a child, Jack Wild received an Oscar nomination for his performance as the Artful Dodger in "Oliver", but his career eventually faltered because of alcoholism. By the 1990s, he was reduced to acting in UM's Agatha Christie segment as the guy who helps Christie start her broken-down car:

I wonder whatever became of the actress who played Elizabeth Ortiz. Surely she went on to bigger and better things?

We can only pray and hope that someday he wins a lifetime achievement award and they start the montage with his Unsolved Mysteries clip.

The IMDb now has an extensive list of actors who did UM re-enactments. The actor who played Gilbert Ortiz is listed, but sadly, the identity of the actress who played Elizabeth remains an unsolved mystery:

Perhaps she wanted to be "uncredited" to help further her budding acting career?

Seriously, they need to do an update on this person. We must know her true identity. I bet she's a nice woman with a good heart, but knowing this will help us avoid any public access shows, instructional work videos, infomercials, or street theatre that she may have been seen with last.

If you have any information, please contact us by posting it here.

He could have started out playing a mascot on a Monk episode, so he has that beat.

How sad for the poor young man who died heroically. :(

I'm rooting for Matthew McConaughey to nab an Oscar for, The Dallas Buyer's Club. We just saw it last week. Excellent movie. He's a fantastic actor, and very easy on the eyes. :lookaroun

We've also been watching him on the HBO Original Series, True Detective. Now that's some incredible acting, by both McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. I'd say some of their best to date. Riveting storytelling
