I think the last episode would have been the wedding of Mama Maybelle to Ernie and explore more about her past in Alabalma and such.

I think all the NYC cast would have been there, including Sam, but the others written off from Glenlawn wouldn't have returned.

Because they were not thinking grand finale at the time. They probably thought that they were coming back for another season.

I think that the same logic holds true for "Gilligan's Island". Closure was never really brought to that show either. At the end of the third season, the cast thought they would be coming back for a fourth.

Yeah. True. I heard that it was the Network Exec's wife who liked Gunsmoke or Bonanza and it was decided that Gilligan would be canceled after all instead of coming back for the fourth season like it was originally planned.

It was "Gunsmoke" that the wife especially liked and it was decided that they would try to get a new audience by putting it earlier in the evening. "Gunsmoke" was on for an hour. Half of the new time slot for "Gunsmoke" would be during the old time slot for "Gilligan's Island". Actually, I would say that "Gilligan's Island" would have had a better chance of making it for another season than "Gimme a Break!". The sixth season of "Gimme a Break!" was already a joke in its own time. A seventh season would be too hard to imagine!

I also read that Gimmie A Break possible would have had a season seven had it not been for "A Different World". Don't know how true that is, though.

Well, I am glad that that did not happen. I find the existence of season six to be hard enough to swallow!

As a kid who was in New York around the time they filmed those scene at the beginning of the season, I was happy. My hope was that I'd be on the show and be Joey's BFF. LOL.

I would also like to see Grandpa Stanley fall in love on the Finale.

Maybel and Ernie get married, Samantha returns and her boyfriend changes his mind and publishes Nell's book, Grandpa Stanley meets-up with the Rue McClanahan character (in the ep with Milton Berle) again and go to Florida, and the wedding reception has the "Gimme a Break" cast that hasn't died or written-off sing this song....
