I never understood why "Ellen" left FT, but obviously, whatever they decided works for them... after 25 years, they're still married!

That question has been asked and answered many times. Tracy left the show because she was in a serious relationship (not with MJF at the time) and got tired of having to fly back and forth between New York and Los Angeles. The writers wrote "her" leaving the show in as Ellen getting a dance scholarship in Paris.

That explanation makes no sense to me. Tracy's last appearance on FT was in October 1987. They were engaged by Christmas 1987. They were married in July 1988.
