In the middle of November of last year, I posted a thread called "An End in Itself". I notice that, at this stage in the game, it has ninety-nine views and zero replies. Because most of my threads do not get replies I am not surprised about the zero replies part! This page has been a virtual dead zone for quite some time. Every once in a while, something will happen that will cause someone to start a thread that one or two people will think worthy of a response. But the novelty always seems to wear off within a couple of days. In any event, my thread titled "An End in Itself" has to do with Katie's attitude during the third-season episode "Samantha's Protest". She spent the bulk of the episode giddy over the handsome boy who was part of the protest. She was giddy over him even before she knew that he was involved in the protest. As soon as she learned about the boy's involvement in the demonstration, she acted as if the spirit had truly moved her and that her heart and soul was in the cause. Talk about a phony! Julie, on the other hand, joined the movement because she cared about Samantha and cared about decency. Julie's willingness to do things like this was one of the things that made her my favorite character on the show. Katie tried to act as if she would do anything for her darling baby sister Samantha. When the demonstrators started to sing, Katie sang right along, still trying to create the illusion that her heart was truly in it. Any fool could have figured out that she was simply showing off to the boy hoping to get him to like her. In my previously mentioned thread, I mentioned how I look at singing as a beautiful form of self-expression. I think that if Katie had been a nice girl, she would have looked at the opportunity to express herself through song as an end in itself. I recently corresponded with a poster who told me that she thought that Katie was a total snot in this episode. Although I agree whole-heartedly with this school of thought, I am still able to see myself in Katie. Katie worked her butt off to get the boy from the protest to ask her for a date. I find myself working my butt off to stimulate some conversation about this fine series! Telling you guys that after one more person visits my previous thread, it will have a hundred views is simply one more attempt to achieve that goal. Let us see if I have more success in my undertaking than Katie had in hers!

How many threads are you going to make about the SAMANTHA'S PROTEST??? You describe the same scenario in every one of those threads.

How about starting a thread on a different GAB episode?

How about the Porkos episode where Nell and her over weight pals save that guy from killing himself? Or how about the episode when Samantha insists on inviting her imaginary friend to dinner? Anything but Samantha's Protest!

Jeez, I am so exhausted from reading about Samantha's Protest.

Those of you who have read the first post on this thread know that, at the time that it was posted, my previous thread titled "And End in Itself" had ninety-nine views and zero replies. I checked it earlier this morning and I see that it now has over three-hundred views and zero replies. The more things change the more they stay the same! This thread is one of the relatively small minority of threads that was started by me that did manage to generate a reply. In any case, less than an hour ago, I started a new thread about something entirely different than anything that I had ever written about before. When I returned to this page after leaving for about twenty minutes, it had no views so far. I am now just bringing this thread to the top of the page thinking that some of you might be interested in what two greats minds were thinking about once upon a time. Bye!

Does anyone remember if the "Porko's" guy wanted to commit suicide by jumping off a building? And does anyone remember exactly how Nell saved him?

Yes, the man from "Porko's" threatened to kill himself by jumping off of the balcony of the room in the hotel in which he was staying. I am not sure what type of method Nell and her club members used to talk him out of it. However, I am pretty sure that the episode is still up on You Tube if you want to reacquaint yourself with it.

As anyone can see, this site is back to being a virtual dead zone. I have not posted on it for quite some time because I have, long ago, run out of things to say about it. The same holds true for the pages of all of the other shows that I used to post about. However, I am now bringing this thread to the top of the page because of something special that is going to happen at four o'clock tomorrow morning. The episode that this thread was originally about is going to be broadcast on Channel 11! As I am sure that a lot of you know, when episodes make it to syndication, parts of the episode get cut out to make room for more commercials. This is because advertising time is cheaper for the smaller channels and during off hours of the day. As a lot of your probably also know, this particular episode has been uploaded multiple times on You Tube. The first time it was uploaded was before the whole series got put on DVD. The first upload was clearing taken for a syndicated recording and several parts were cut. I got reacquainted with those parts when I got the DVD set. Another thing that I have mentioned on a bunch of previous threads is that, whenever I hear the word disgusting, my mind always goes back to Julie's words of wisdom in this episode. I have, in fact heard the word disgusted used countless times since the last time that I have posted here. However, I stopped posting about it because of the number of times that I have been told that I was beating a dead horse. However, on this occasion, I will make an exception! Earlier today, I watched an episode of "Different Strokes" on You Tube. In this episode, a girl named Dianne referred to Arnold's behavior as disgusting. I also find it an interesting coincidence that a show with Gary Coleman reminded me of a show with Kari Michaelsen. This is because these two stars have appeared together twice. Once was on a different episode of "Different Strokes" and once was on the movie "The Kid with the 200 I.G.".

By reading my original post on this thread, you will see that, my previous thread, "An End In Itself" had ninety-nine views and zero replies at the time that I started this one. That thread is now on the third page. Most of what has pushed it there has been later attempts by me to stimulate some conversation about this fine series. Well, even though that thread still has no replies, I would like to tell you guys something about it just for fun. It now has four-hundred-and-one views!

At 8 o'clock last night the movie called "Footloose" was broadcast on TV Land. This movie was made in 1984. If you read the first post of this thread, you know that it was started by me and that it is mainly about the third-season episode "Samantha's Protest". The third-season of "Gimme a Break!" was broadcast during the school year of 1983/84. By the time that this particular episode was shown, the New Year had come and gone and thus, it was already 1984. One thing that I would like to mention is the fact that the episode that this thread is about was made the same year as last night's movie. On top of that, this movie had to do with dancing. I remember one line from "Samantha's Protest" that also related to dancing. Julie pointed out the fact that the local bowling alley was built on an Indian burial ground. In any attempt to be cleaver Katie said that it is a good thing that a disco was not built on the site of an Indian burial ground. Julie asked her what that was supposed to mean. Katie said "if it was, it would start to rain whenever we would dance"! One thing that I have noticed is that this line is one of the first to go to make room for more ads when this episode goes into syndication. Seven years ago, somebody uploaded this episode onto You Tube as a favor to me. It had clearly been recorded from syndication and this incident was one thing that was missing. I had to wait for the whole series to get put on DVD to get reacquainted with this line.

This is one of many threads that I had started in which someone responded by pointing out how much I tend to harp on "Samantha's Protest". I plead no contest to that fact that this is an obsession of sorts of mine. You could blame it on my disability, lack of other things to think about or any number of other factors. In any event, a few days ago, I had an experience that, once again reminded me of "Samantha's Protest"! I figure that, rather then start a whole new thread to tell you guys about it, I would bring up an old one about this topic and just add to it. There are, in fact, two things about "Samantha's Protest" that happen to be on my mind at the moment. After I post this message, I plan on bringing up another thread that pertains to this topic and tell you guys about the second thing. In any event, a while back, I started a thread about an episode of "Friends" in which the character of Rachel was very giddy over a man named Josh. This situation started with Rachel having worked for a place in which she was given Josh as a client. Her giddiness over him was very similar to Katie's giddiness over the handsome boy from the protest. Just like Katie, she flirted her butt off and got nowhere! Also like Katie, she tried to invent situations in which she would have an excuse to make physical contact with the man of her dreams. Well, a few nights ago, I was flipping through the channels and this episode happened to be on. At the point in the episode that I happened to tune in to, Rachel was telling the gang that she saw Josh again and that he still had not asked her out. She then went on to say "its most frustrating". Very similar to Katie's frustrations with not getting asked out by the boy from the protest. However, one very significant difference here is that Rachel was a big enough person to admit that it was she who wanted Josh. Early in "Samantha's Protest", we heat Katie refer to the boy that she liked as her slave. Throughout the episode, Katie had two much self pride to admit that it was she who was at the boy's mercy rather than the other way around. I would like to offer Rachel a salute for not having the type of foolish pride that Katie had in this instance.
