View Full Version : The ultimate question:Patty or Cathy?
installLSC 02-09-2014, 05:22 PM Just answer any way you want, whether it be as a best friend or girlfriend.
I'll take an easy way out and pick Patty as a friend and Cathy as a girlfriend. Patty just seems like more fun to hang out with, and I'd much rather go to the burger stand then eat crepes suzette. But Patty also seemed too much like a little kid to have a serious relationship, and I love Cathy's English accent. Your thoughts?
OH Nuts! 02-10-2014, 09:31 AM I'd love having someone like Cathy as a friend-brilliant, sophisticated, pensive, thoughtful--a still water THAT REALLY RUNS deep. Patty's a nice girl and all that, but I like Cathy better.

Me too. Cathy has always been my favorite. She tries to keep Patty grounded.
1960'sTVfan 02-14-2014, 12:44 AM Definitely Patty. Not that I dislike Cathy, but Patty is the coolest, she's my type of girl.
Cathy_Lane 02-18-2014, 02:28 AM Were they not fictional characters, I would easily want both girls as my friends.
Patty would be a fun person to be around...provided that you have the patience to try to reel her in once she gets too flighty. Patty is a girl of strong emotions...her newest idea is always the best one she ever had, and I'm sure that she would feel that way about a friend (or a boyfriend).
Cathy would be a good friend as well...trustworthy, grounded in reality most of the time (but she can get carried away sometimes herself, especially if she is pushed too far)...but you would need to be able to be strong for her, too, as her quiet, reserved manner hides a sensitive artistic soul with just a bit of low self-esteem. Cathy would be hard to get to know, but once you proved to her you were her friend (or boyfriend), she would be loyal. Cathy didn't seem to date as much as Patty, perhaps because she didn't feel she was ready, or because it got in the way of her schoolwork (or maybe keeping Patty and Ross out of trouble ate up too much of her time)?
Oldtv599 02-18-2014, 12:35 PM For some reason I always think of Patty as being a real person and Cathy as being a figment of imagination, but I think I would lean to Cathy. Although I like both girls, Patty is too loud and bossy sometimes. When she's subdued and in a normal state she's great.

Ted was her only sometime boyfriend I believe but he was gone by season 3 after that Cathy didn't really have a boyfriend she was just "there".
I did like the chemistry between Cath and Christopher Hubbard (the actor who later became Lucille Ball's son-in-law). That was one of my fave eps from the 2nd season.

Patty would be too tiring to have as a best friend especially when she gets into one of her hijinks.
MickeyMac 02-19-2014, 04:19 PM Hell, why pick, I'd take both
Little_stinker 09-24-2018, 02:26 PM Each has their own endearing qualities, but if I was forced to choose I think that I would side more with Cathy.
I appreciate her style more.
CosmicCharlie 02-27-2019, 10:22 PM I like the one who "a hotdog makes her lose control" LOL
AMackII 07-28-2019, 01:31 AM I perfer Cathy for example
Bonniegirl 07-28-2019, 01:41 AM I like the one who "a hotdog makes her lose control" LOL
:lol::D
I'm more a Patty and my Sister was more a Cathy , we're not identical though!
RetroGuy2000 07-28-2019, 02:33 AM I definitely prefer Cathy's personality, though I like them both.
Schmoopie 07-29-2019, 06:41 PM Wow, that's a hard one. I like Cathy a little better but it depends on my mood I guess.
Rainmaker 08-11-2019, 08:04 PM I'd be friends with Patty as I believe back in the day I was more like her.
CosmicCharlie 08-11-2019, 08:21 PM as a teen Patty all the way but as an adult Cathy would make a great long term relationship
Flowerchild04 12-28-2019, 07:20 PM I am a 15 year old teen girl right now who freaking loves this show and I think I identify with both Patty and Kathy. I do like to have fun and hang out with my friends like Patty but I also know when it is time to be responsible like Kathy. So I think I could be friends with both of them if that is possible.
PracTz 12-31-2019, 10:46 AM While the late Anna Marie Duke Pearce admitted she liked Cathy for her earnestness and maturity and thought Patty was embarrassing, she did admit that she liked the fact that Patty was a determined person!
Yeah, you get more laughs hanging out with the class clown but you can't rely on them as much as the class valedictorian so I'd also go with Cathy.
Yabba Dabba Doo Gal 10-06-2020, 02:56 PM I think both Patty and Cathy would be great friends who would have my back in everything. Even though they are like night and day as the theme song says deep down their core personality traits of caring for people are among both of them.
