View Full Version : underrated sitcoms DJM77 08-06-2001, 07:35 PM What are some of the most underrated sitcoms of all time? JT 08-06-2001, 09:02 PM Alice which ran from 1976-85. It had an ensemble cast working at a diner. If you don't remember it just try to rememember "Kiss Mah Grits!" And this diner had a HUGE clientele over the 9 years. callmetootie 08-06-2001, 09:13 PM I'd say "Gloria". The show was pretty funny, and Sally Struthers was a really good actress in this. I remember the episode called, "The Final Papers", where she gave a most sad, but excellent performence. ------------------ Andrew Carden 1972dude 08-07-2001, 12:51 AM even though i've never seen it I thing Gloria sounds like an underrated sitcom, Gloria is a great character and sally struthers is a great actress James 08-07-2001, 01:07 PM I'd have to say "Perfect Strangers" and "The Wonder Years". When they got cancelled in 1993 the media paid NO attention whatsoever, focusing their attention on "Cheers" (which I thought was an OVERRATED sitcom that lasted tooooooooooo looooooooooong) instead. factsoflife 08-07-2001, 08:50 PM CYBILL, this show that ran on CBS from 1994-1997 was everything that a classic sitcom should be, it was brillantly written, effortlessly acted with total brillance, it had a superb supporting cast and was most importanlty, hilarous and funy. alas, CBS canceled this, Brillant and actually TOP-RATED sitcom, they yanked it even though it was still in the TOP 20! total AGE DISCRIMATION, just because Cybill was older they yanked her off the air. ------------------ " high school is a battelfield, for the heart."- Angelea, My so-called life. " Gross-a-roo"- punky brewster " punky power" punky brewster "as if"- clueless "chimps, i'm working with chipms"- amber, cLueless. Titania 08-07-2001, 09:41 PM Ill agree that Alice was VERY underrated, it had a long run and a great cast. Steveman68 08-07-2001, 10:20 PM In recent memory, I'd say that "It's Like, You Know" was one of the most underrated. I thought this show was hilarious. johnnysam 08-08-2001, 08:27 AM I think the most under-rated sitcom is either, "Duet," or, "The Powers That Be." Both were intelligently written, well acted (with gifted actors....Alison La Placa (Duet), Holland Tayor, and David Hyde Pierce (The Powers that Be), and great chemistry. I can't figure out the networks....they have great televison shows and just kill 'em!!!! factsoflife 08-08-2001, 01:20 PM WOMEN OF THE HOUSE, it aired for a brief period in 199? something? anyway, Suzanne SugarBaker as a sneate house speaker, what more could you want! brilant! Delta should have gotten an Emmy for this. i agree, It's Like you, Know was excellant. also, Just the ten of us and Madman of the people were very good shows. ------------------ " high school is a battelfield, for the heart."- Angelea, My so-called life. " Gross-a-roo"- punky brewster " punky power" punky brewster "as if"- clueless "chimps, i'm working with chipms"- amber, cLueless. Chocoholic 09-07-2001, 10:21 PM I think Wings was very under-rated. It was funny and unpredictable and had excellent writing and acting. Same with NewsRadio. I'll watch reruns of those 2 shows over that crappy, over-rated Friends any day. LucyFan 09-08-2001, 05:20 PM The most underrated sitcom I think is Here's Lucy which featured Lucille Ball's own children in it and Gale Gordon. I don't think it is on air anywhere at all. It hardly airs and it is very rare to find. Others worth mentioning about: The Lucy Show (Lucy & Viv, Lucy at the Bank) Mork and Mindy The Munsters Today Mister Ed Dennis the Menace Perfect Strangers The Addams Family (the 60's tv show) The Munsters Laverne and Shirley Family Affair Joanie Loves Chachi The Brady Brides The Gooch 09-08-2001, 05:25 PM Newhart. zack 09-10-2001, 06:01 PM Three's Company Brooklyn Bridge King of the Hill Bluestone 09-11-2001, 02:14 PM Almost everything on N@N. They're so overshadowed by today's crap. I also like "The Brady Brides". I should have run longer. Sal 09-14-2001, 03:40 PM How about these? Sgt. Bilko----Phil Silvers was a comic genius. Car 54, Where Are You? Dobie Gillis That Girl Leave It To Beaver Green Acres Petticoat Junction Family Affair (The original Buffy really slays me!) The Flying Nun The Courtship Of Eddie's Father Gomer Pyle Love American Style The Odd Couple More recent examples: 3rd Rock From The Sun ALF Sabrina The Teenage Witch Malcolm In The Middle Sitcomwriter 09-18-2001, 01:35 PM The Brady Brides and Its like, you know were very funny shows. If you ask me TBB was MUCH better than The Brady Bunch. dawsongirl 09-18-2001, 04:24 PM Anyone remember Oh, Grow Up? I thought it was funny, but then any new show I think is funny ends up cancelled. Duanepa 09-27-2001, 03:24 AM Originally posted by JT: Alice which ran from 1976-85. I thought Alice was pretty good when Flo was on the show and when Tommy was a mere kid. But, nine years? I found the last three seasons pretty tuff to watch. Thank goodness for Vera! |
