“Austin and Ally” star Laura Marano has been cast as the lead in the upcoming indie drama “A Sort of Homecoming.”

Producers are Marcus Brown, Lynn Reed and Yvette Brown with Maria Burton directing.

Film follows a news producer who is successful, but withdrawn, as a result of problems that ensue during a high school national debate tournament. Marano will portray the teenage version.

Marano stars as an introverted songwriter on Disney Channel’s “Austin & Ally,” which is in its third season.

Marano is represented by Paradigm, Marano Entertainment, and Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein Kohner & Gellman.


Actually, I've read similar news stories, which is why I didn't add the word "Exclusive" in the title.

Since I posted this, I found out it wasn't necessarily going to be a TV movie.

However, she will be in a DCOM in 2015, and that qualifies.

It's obviously not going to be released any time in 2014, because 2014 is over, and the cast and crew is still waiting for some distributor or film festival.

Neither of those locations are ones that I can make it to. :(
