When there was only one black guy in the main cast of New Girl, there was no need for a re-classification. But as everyone well knows, you can't have 2 tokens (only one.) So since we have so many black guys as full-fledged cast members, the question remains; How many more black people do we need to have cast on "New Girl" before it is considered a black show? Remember "Different Strokes" only had 2. . .and that's considered a "black show".

People are going to classify shows as whatever they want to and that's fine. For me, I prefer that we just quit calling shows like "The Cosby Show" and "Family Matters" and especially "Diff'rent Strokes" (considering the nature of the show)- a "black" show. (With "Diff'rent Strokes", you had a white man adopting two black brothers and they formed one family with their white sister and later on, their new white mother and white brother.) Though the show definitely addressed racial issues, most of the time it was just a show about kids growing up in a penthouse in New York. (I think more so than the focus on Arnold and Willis being black and being adopted by a white family at times, there was an even stronger emphasis sometimes on the whole jump from a different lower economic situation to a higher end economic situation.)
Anyway, the Drummonds were united as a family and didn't care about race and that's the point I was trying to get across.
I prefer to just think of television shows as television shows- and if I like them, I watch them. I don't care about the race of the people depicted.

the only reason I would consider a show to be "black" or "white" would be if they intentionally tailored the entire show to only appeal to one group and be exclusive of the other.

If that was done, the show would be banking that they primarily only have one main audience. (Kinda like how the whole BET channel seems to do.) To me, that doesn't make much sense from a business perspective as it would be shutting out potential profit from other groups. Most companies want to market their products to everyone so that they can maximize their profits.

I would classify it as simply a sitcom. "black" or "white" isn't a show classification.

Benson got his own show. I also agree that no matter what the race of the show, I would watch it. That means if it's good.
