For one reason. (and I know that GG always has inaccuracies...but, this one is way too big)

Rose's maiden name is not Nylund. It's Lindstrom. She's said it was Lindstrom since the beginning of the show. And, even after this episode. Nylund is her married name. Period. WTH writers?

Anyone else hate this episode for that reason?

The adoption story goes down like a lead balloon, and only a dimwit could not work out the climax, namely Bob Hope's appearance. Series 3 was beginning to show the strain in the scripts,if not the Girls' appearance as the plastic surgery transformed them into younger creatures than Series 1,which on a personal level I was happy for them if that's what they wanted, just it didn't do much for the credibilty of the show.

I don't remember why she thought Bob Hope was her father. Also, Rose was adopted, so Lindstrom was the name of her adoptive family.

And did she conclude that Don Ameche was her birth father, after this episode or before?

It is BY FAR my least favorite episode of the series for both reasons you mentioned. The entire story is so inconceivable, especially for someone of Rose's age.
Also, I don't know how no one, including Betty White herself, did not catch the Nylund/Lindstrom error. It easily could have been changed with no real impact on the script.

it was season 4 where the "strain" started, but it really was noticeable in season 5- isn't that when the new writers took over?

Season 3 still had lots of gem moments.

Betty White's the only one who didn't really look different through the whole run- same hairstyle, to boot. :)

And, yes, the name screw-up was something that should have been fixed.
