Okay, I know that $100 was more money in the late 70's than it is today, but it seemed like a good chunk of the episodes dealt with the trio struggling to come up with $100 each of the rent money. What's that about? To paraphrase Mr. Roper from one episode: 'What the heck are they spending their money on?' I could maybe understand Jack having a slightly tougher time since he probably had to pay for college classes, but none of them owned a car. What were they spending their money on?

The drinks at the Regal Beagle are very, very expensive. And those 3 are there drinking just about every nite.

The rent in California especially near the Beach like Santa Monica causes most people to struggle, its probably not the last $100 that killed them, but its the first 10-15 hundreds that would have killed them back then.

Well actually in the 1st season in the episode where they think they've been robbed they say that they put $300 for the rent money in an envelope.
But yeah the amount of their rent was never consistant.
