View Full Version : Nice ending to Sammy Davis's 2nd visit to see Archie TVFactFan 01-17-2014, 01:22 AM Classic ending lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQe4Z1Mrf-k ThomasE 01-17-2014, 01:58 AM I was floored when I saw it for the first time. That was a cute scene. Archie evolved. Good for him. TVFactFan 01-17-2014, 02:01 AM I was floored when I saw it for the first time. That was a cute scene. Archie evolved. Good for him. Laughing at Sammy when Archie said no "what do you mean NO? LOL ThomasE 01-17-2014, 02:16 AM Laughing at Sammy when Archie said no "what do you mean NO? LOL No. My fave was when the black nurse said "Are you the honkey that wasted Sammy"? She was a little bothered. LOL. Veronica's line to the reporter "Hey lady! I hate your little white hat" line was a little weak. TVFactFan 01-17-2014, 02:18 AM No. My fave was when the black nurse said "Are you the honkey that wasted Sammy"? She was a little bothered. LOL. Veronica's line to the reporter "Hey lady! I hate your little white hat" line was a little weak. I hated that lady who played the nurse after seeing her on the jeffersons talking sh*t to george:lol:  cleverfun3000 01-18-2014, 12:21 PM I was a HUGE fan of "All in the Family" for years - seen every episode at least 3 times - but "Archie Bunker's Place" was garbage. An evolved and politically correct Archie Bunker might be good for society, but it's boring as a sitcom. YUCK. Every episode spent way too much time explaing and showing how he had evolved from his bigoted and racist ways and quite frankly, not only did it make the character less interesting, it was no fun seeing a watered-down version of what he used to be. The show might have run for another three years if he had maintained the level of predjudice and discrimation he showed in the first 2 or three episodes of that cherished 1st season. ThomasE 01-18-2014, 12:25 PM Cleverfun3000, I don't think it would have lasted more time. Times were changing and Archie was mellowing with the times. Most TV shows that started in the 70's and went into the 80's were dying down from the intensity and had more of an upbeat type of feel to them. The 80's were a time of change and less intensity. king of comedy 01-18-2014, 01:14 PM I just saw that and it was funny. But I agree with you. It would have lasted 2 more years but not beyond that. All in the Family was perfect in its' time but the times were changing and people do change with the times. They had to change the show around some after Mike left. Archie was even getting mellower during the last few years of AITF. It happened with George on the Jeffersons too. Nothing stays the same. Nothing stays the same. exactly, I am not the same way I was when I first joined this site lol we all change ThomasE 01-18-2014, 11:25 PM Thank you Sol and 70. The sitcom characters from the 70's transformed in some ways as the 80's did approach. Even in the 80's there were characters like Blair Warner from "Facts of Life" that become more grounded in later years. TVFactFan 01-19-2014, 12:05 AM even though I know the 1975 george and 1971 archie could not stay the same, it sure would have been nice to keep seeing those characters lol king of comedy 01-19-2014, 07:15 AM You keep a character the same for a long period of time, that character becomes one dimensional, flat and boring. cleverfun3000 01-19-2014, 09:24 AM no one stays the same You are right. . .No ONE stays the same. In REAL life. But we are NOT talking real life here. We are talking television. We are talking entertainment. We are talking about people's livelihoods. If staying the same would keep these classic shows on longer - than to hell with character development. I am not always interested in seeing the characters get married, have a baby and fit blandly into society. It's their quirkiness and outlandish personalities that made the show a success and that's what's going to keep it on the air. It's NOT entertaining to see a television character become run-of-the-mill normal as the years progress. TVFactFan 01-19-2014, 06:42 PM You are right. . .No ONE stays the same. In REAL life. It's NOT entertaining to see a television character become run-of-the-mill normal as the years progress. They have to change because of the times. So people are forced to change which has to be shown in sitcoms too. Archie never lived next door to black people when AITF first started but as the years went on he actually saw that some blacks were just regular people like him George never lived near a interracial couple but over the years he actually got use to seeing them and it was no longer a issue Certain life situations force you to change whether you want to or not cleverfun3000 01-19-2014, 08:34 PM They have to change because of the times. We are NOT talking about real life here. We are talking about fabricated, keep-em-laughing so the ratings stays high and the series gets renewed for another season of sitcom television comedy. Why do you think Charlie Brown and "Peanuts" never grew up? What about "Dennis the Menace"? There are certain sitcom characters who's growth ultimately derails the originality of the show and it becomes bland and loses it's edge. I know you don't agree with me, but doesn't anyone else out there see how it is beneficial to keep the laughs coming even if it's at the expense of the character's personal growth? It's a television show! The point is to write it so that the most people watch it! TVFactFan 01-19-2014, 08:52 PM What you say is TRUE - about REAL LIFE. We are NOT talking about real life here. Both characters still were funny but just wasn't as funny as they were when they first was introduced Archie was no longer as prejudice as he was in season 1 but still able to make you laugh by the way he made fun of Mike and the way he reacted to Edith being silly George was no longer as prejudice as he was in season 1 but still made you laugh by the way he made fun of Florence and Mr. Bently and Tom Willis weight MikeLutton 01-19-2014, 09:20 PM I got the dvd version there some lines missing when Sammy talked to the reporter was talking about archie n stuff it must of been edited did anyone see dvd version of return of Sammy. ThomasE 01-20-2014, 03:00 AM I prefer the Archie and George of the 80's (Especially George) George was a little too much for me to handle during his run the first half on The Jeffersons. I didn't mind if on All the family when he was going up against Archie, though. Plus, they were still relevant in the later years of both shows. To have shows that ran for 13 and 11 years is great. The times changed as well as attitiudes. As the 80's came about, that intensity died down and I was kind of grateful for that. TVFactFan 01-26-2014, 05:09 PM You can be right but I still prefer them in the later years. I think not. |
