I've seen stories stating that Johnson flew something like 44 combat missions in WWII.

It's amazing to hear the names of some of the celebrities who fought in WWII.

I read that both Yogi Berra and Art Carney were involved in the D-Day operation.

What a generation that was!

Jimmy Doohan, "Scotty" from the original Star Trek", had his middle finger shot off on the beach at Normandy.

Wow, I never knew that. Yet another celebrity who put it all on the line for us.

I just read Doohan's wiki article, it talks about that injury and mentions that he had to have the finger amputated. I never knew that about him, it says he concealed it during his acting career. Wow.

That's so sad to hear, especially since he lived in the Seattle area.

I remember my brother would watch it before we went to school I kind of gotten tired of it over the years, TV land just put back on Gilligan's island.

RIP Professor. You were a great character on a great show.
