View Full Version : Caroline is very unfair to Richard

I am finally finishing the series (I stopped midway through season 4) and by the last episodes, I am almost disgusted with Caroline's treatment of Richard.

He longs for her for three whole years and despite his negative personality, he does so much to try to make her happy even when it makes him uncomfortable. On top of that, he puts up with a lot of Caroline's obsessiveness to make things perfect (their first date) or when she complains and bitches when he doesn't make plans EXACTLY the way she expects it (Halloween episode where he gets stuck in a vent) only to discover he had plans much better than what she had expected.

She ruins their trip to Boston to see his favorite paintings, always judges and questions his attitude despite his previous attempts to make her happy...then just because she sees an old classmate, she is willing to throw away all of his feelings?

She spends one whole season yearning for him, he spends half of season 1, most of 2, and most of 3, wanting her...she continually got into his Marriage..

And then, after one year of dating (most of which she was a pain in the butt), she throws him an ultimatum.

This is the primary reason I dislike Season 4 so very much...throughout the whole series, Caroline puts everyone else's feelings before hers but in Season 4 she suddenly only gives a damn about herself and is just all "Screw Richard!"

Am I the only one who feels this way >.<

It's possible the writers didn't want to make their romance too easy or too predictable in season 4. Also don't you think Caroline might not have been completely over her feelings about Richard & Julia's marriage? That may have been part of the reason for her changing attitude in season 4.

Feelings over Richard and Julia getting married? Why should she hold that against him? While Richard was secretly swooning for her, she dated several men, slept with some, and always had them over despite Richard being there. Now she didn't know he liked her but still, he never held it against her why should she hold it against him?

What ticked me off was that in the beginning I really wanted them together and when they finally did get together they annoyed me to no end! I have Seasons 1-2 and have no desire to get the other two seasons.

It's not so much she held it against him, it's that when she was ready to start dating him, he up & marries Julia. So she has unresolved feelings where's he concerned. And most of the time when she's dating other men, she has no clue he has romantic feelings for her or he is already married to Julia. I think all that conflict kept the show interesting. But I do agree that the last season wasn't Caroline's best.

So many times when a couple finally get together, it turns out to be a real let down. And I agree season's 1 & 2 were the best, but I'd still like to have 3 & 4 because they had some funny episodes.

I blamed the writers for screwing up their relationship and introducing randy to the show, as well changing lea Thompson's character. I am a Caroline and Richard shipper, and season 4 wasn't as bad as people made out. It's only the last 6 episodes which ruined the whole show.
