Ok so I remember this case, and I remember that it aired in repeats. It was about a couple who went to dinner with another couple. And at the end of the night they got a flat tire.... and then they were possibly terrorized by someone on the way home. This is where my memory is a little sketchy. I want to say they were in a field and the men were beaten and shot and the women were robbed of their jewelry, but I am not positive on that. I do remember that the couples were older and in their mid 50's at least. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Yes. That is the William Claybourne Taylor segment. Ed Bailey, a former mayor and respected citizen of a little town in Florida, was the intended victim (although he survived and lived six more years after that). Clay's brother Ray was Bailey's attorney. Ray thought that if Bailey died, he would be named executor of his estate (a lucrative endeavor), so he conspired with Clay and a man named Paul Allen to commit the crime. The women were unharmed; when the flat tire was discovered, they went home in a second vehicle. The men had the tire repaired and were then followed from the garage onto the highway. Allen and Clay Taylor rolled up alongside the men's vehicle, and Clay aimed a rifle at it. He motioned the driver to lean out of the way so that he could hit Bailey who was riding in the passenger seat, but he ended up shooting and killing that driver and wounding Bailey. The assailants drove off while the men's vehicle slowed and ran off the road. IIRC, the crime was committed in 1977 and the segment aired in 1991 or '92.

Wow, in a startling coincidence, today just happens to be the 37th anniversary of the crime! I just did a search on this case and found an article from one year ago which confirms that Clay Taylor has still never been caught:

Um.... that's creepy because I was seriously just remembering the case today. And forgive my ignorance, but what does IIRC mean? Thanks for filling in my memory gaps :)
