Judging by the previous 4 seasons release dates, we could possibly see season 5 released in March 2014. Any thoughts or info on this?

Season 1: June 12, 2012
Season 2: October 23, 2012
Season 3: March 19, 2013
Season 4: October 22, 2013

That sounds about right. I have been pacing myself with S4 watching only one or two episodes on Sunday nights (followed by an episode of FLO). I just finished "Good Buddy Flo" last week.

Season 5 has been set for a March/April release. As soon as I hear a definite date I'll let everyone know. Warner has full intensions of releasing the full seasons. Seasons 5 and 6 will be released this year with the last seasons coming in 2015.

I wish Warner Archive released more TV shows. They seem to get at least 2 seasons out a year and they don't just release one season then quit.

Hopefully we'll see "Growing Pains" season 4 soon!

Me too but unfortunately the rest of the WB shows I want have music issues.

Good news about Alice though. I was worried since the later seasons have music issues also. I guess it's selling well enough for them to afford to clear those. I think Growing Pains S4 will come out soon as well.

Warner's has a limited amount of staff working on the projects. Although they are making money off if them it's not enough to employ more staff, at least that is how it was explained to me.

Good to hear!

I was worried a little. I know this has happened with some shows in that they get a couple of seasons released then they just quit! And since there are 202 episodes and 9 seasons, I fear that it will take forever for the entire series to be released. Too bad they don't just release "Alice the complete series" so we don't have to wait.

I have bootlegged copies I bought a long time ago from someone online and they are OK.........but some of the quality is awful .....I will buy ALL the season of Alice too :) One of my favorite 70s/80s sitcoms. Such a feel good show.

They've been releasing 2 seasons a year so it shouldn't take too much longer to complete the series.

Estimated schedule:
Seasons 5 & 6: 2014
Seasons 7 & 8: 2015
Season 9: 2016

This was asked on their Facebook page about a month ago and their response was "No estimated time" for S5 of ALICE. Maybe the music issues need to be worked out. There are some with the Robert Goulet season-opener and I am not sure about "The Jerry Reed Fish Story". It has been nearly 25 years since I have seen most of these. I know S6 also has a few issues too.

I too have all the Belle and Jolene seasons on VHS, but they were recorded nearly 25 years ago and in SLP mode (before I knew better) so they are not as clear as the DVDs are. I would gladly buy every season if WA releases them, even though Seasons 7-9 are not the greatest.

The ION episodes WERE HORRIBLY edited.........

I had purchased the TNN episodes from someone and there were a lot of bad quality episodes in the middle of the series run.......So I recorded those bad quality TNN episodes from ION.......I compared them to ION and I couldn't believe the sht ION cut out!

So one week I was bored and I used a video editor to use the good quality ION episodes and I put in the scenes that ION edited out, back in.....

I don't think the TNN episodes were heavily edited at all....(just a very little) because the sped up the show instead of editing it.

Still, I wish they would release season 5 already! That was the worst season (quality wise) of the TNN episodes I purchased from someone.

E! did the same thing in the late '90s so the editing was just as bad. I could stand that better than the time-sped episodes on TNN. I only watched episode 1 on TNN because I couldn't stand seeing the characters bounce around like Mexican jumping beans.

I prefer the time-sped episodes on TNN. Why? Because the quality wasn't bad of the ones I have and I can slow down the 4 to 5 % speed increase converting them to mp4 and putting them on my external hard drive......At least with the speed increase you don't get the massive edits you did with the ion or E episodes.

I keep wondering why I haven't gotten a notification of season 5 being released because folks seemed to think it would have been released by now. Of all the season I have, quality-wise, season 5 is the WORST! So I'm really wanting season 5 to be released.

I had a feeling months ago that this would happen. They would just stop releasing seasons. Oh well! At least the Flo seasons are released. It's really hilarious that they have no problem pumping out entire series of TV shows that have music in them, but the ones I want seem to take a lifetime.

I wonder if some of the seasons didn't sell that well because the prices are so high compared to other series. Almost 30 dollars for a season?? No wonder!

Oh, and about the ION episodes being of bad quality. I have DirecTV when I recorded them with my DVR, and I absolutely do not notice the quality being bad at all. I would have noticed if it were that bad. It wasn't blurry at all. Strange that some of you had those problems. I don't get that. I just wish they weren't as edited as they were.

I found out that the reason this series is so freaking expensive is because they are manufactured on demand. You would almost think that would make them less expensive since the DVD's themselves aren't pressed. Sure, it's not mass-produced but my question is WHY? What makes this series any different from most of the other series that are mass-produced. I don't get it. You have to really search DEEP in the darkest pits of the internet to find each season for under 20 dollars, and even then, it's rare to find.....I mean, it's no wonder they aren't selling the way they would have hoped at those prices. I mean, I bought them, but I think it would harm potential sales. I'm so sick of waiting on this show.

Actually, if you order within a reasonable timeframe of the release date, you do receive pressed DVDs. I have seasons 1-4 and the complete series of "Flo" and all of my DVDs are pressed. I ordered direct from Warner Archive.

I get that. I guess it's just odd to me that Alice (a top 10 sitcom for almost 10 years) isn't mass produced and instead is released ON DEMAND on DVD-R (unless you buy early), while the other equally, or sometimes much less popular shows are pressed whether you buy them early or years later.

Oh well.

Does anyone think this will be a case where Warner stops and ultimately a company like Shout Factory will release the entire series?

Hopefully not.

At one point when the first few releases were out, someone here (who sounded like an insider) stated Warner Archive had plans on releasing the entire series. That's why I was surprised when things slowed down. I can't believe sales were THAT bad for Season 4 that they would stop.

tlc38tlc38
12-04-2014, 06:58 PM
I don't really think the slow down has anything to do with sales of the previous seasons. I think they've just taken more on than they had originally planned. They also may have ran into a music problem---there may have been a song in season 5 that is taking some time and money to clear. I personally can wait and I hope they take their time and do the series justice.

It's been so long since I've seen these episodes though I can't recall which songs are used. I will have to dig out my old VHS tapes one of these days.

Let's see. Since I have all my TV shows on a 2 tb hard drive with a media player for easy access to watch on my TV, I've very recently watched these episodes. I can't think of any SONG other than Belle singing a song she made up "Uncle bub's got cotton, Uncle Bub's got corn, Uncle Bub's got chicken they never been born, Ouww AHHH...

And in the Vegas episode, Alice and Robert Goulet sang a song, but it wasn't the official release they sang and I don't believe it was even a full song.

Honestly, I don't think that's the reason. I just think they wanted to release the Flo seasons of Alice then that's it. I think the only way the rest of the seasons are released is if Time-Life releases them like they have other series' that were half released.

There are music issues in both Seasons 5 and 6. The Vegas episode has Alice singing with Robert Goulet, and then there's "The Jerry Reed Fish Story".

In Season 6, Alice and the Acorns (her old high school singing group) perform "At the Hop".

tlc38tlc38

No doubt, the issues are probably due to music rights. I don't care how long it takes as long as they eventually get the issues resolved and release the episodes unaltered. WB is usually great at getting and paying for music rights. Can't wait for all the seasons to finally be released...I'll order them all on day one!

Whatever the issues are...I'm just happy to hear something and not be left hanging with no news at all.

Sounds good to me. I just hope we see at least two more seasons by 2017. At least they are starting to work on "FM" so hopefully"Alice" is next. I kinda wish that Shout! or StarVista had taken it from the beginning and released a complete series set. At least then we would have it all. I think Shout! will eventually release a complete series set of "DS". It seems to be high on the list of wanted titles for a series set. And it also doesn't hurt that Shout! has already released seasons 3 and 4, so they do own some of the rights to the show.

Amazon uses DVD-R discs.

If you order from WBshop.com, they use actual pressed discs for the initial run, then they begin to use DVD-R discs. So, if you want pressed discs, order within the first few months of release date from WBshop.com.

I've also seen Warner Archive releases on Walmart, Target, Barnes and Noble, and Best Buy websites but I don't know what kind of discs they used. The only MOD I have is the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show, and I got directly from Warner Archive back in January 2013 about two months after it was released and my discs were pressed.

I don't plan on getting Alice unless they release all the seasons. However, I do remember seeing Seasons 1 and 2 at a local store here in Memphis called Spin Street, which is owned by FYE, sometime back in 2013. Has anyone else here ever seen any Warner MOD titles in a store?

That's why I decided not to buy anymore seasons of the Jeffersons because it was too big of a gap ibn between releases

The sales of Seasons 1 - 4 did not met Warner's expectations and Flo (according to them) only shipped 400 units (box sets). They decided the fan base would only want the seasons with Flo and killed any chances of re-issuing the other seasons. According to Warner, there is still no plan for any further Alice seasons. The only chance is if Shout! Factory or other reissue labels get permission to continue to series (and don't hold your breath Warner is notoriously stingy with their material).

I wonder what Linda Lavin thinks of this? Nearly 40 years after her allegedly having Polly taken off the show and out of her spotlight, the only DVDs of Alice available are, ironically, the Flo seasons. On top of that, Flo's own complete series is on DVD, while the rest of Alice is in limbo. So we have all of Polly's performances as Flo available for home viewing, but not even half of Linda's series. Hmm, some may ask, "Karma, Linda?"...

FLO the series was never as well-written as ALICE nor as populated with as many likeable characters with which ALICE was blessed. Speculating that future seasons of ALICE would sell poorly based on the weak sales of FLO is like saying that future HAPPY DAYS sets would not sell well because JOANIE LOVES CHACHI only moved xxx number of units.

I wish Shout would just get the rights and put out the Complete Series. About two years ago, they did state it was an interesting possibility should they choose to pursue it. Shout would certainly have an easier time of getting around those music clearances from the Belle and Jolene years. But that may cut into WA's sales of the Flo era discs, so I'm not sure it would happen.

Listen to tlc38tlc38. The best is already available. Why avoid buying the "classic era" of a TV show just because the later mediocre seasons aren't available? That's not to say they're not good or entertaining, but this show was created with Flo, so these 4 seasons (well, 3 2/3, technically) are the "meat" of the series, the golden era. I have the first 4 DVD sets and I haven't even watched the last 1/3 of the shows on season 4 after Flo leaves because I only cared about having "the Flo years" on DVD.

the only chance is if someone like Shout! Factory acquires the rights and hopefully Warner will stop being so damn stingy and allow for it to be licensed to someone who can do it. Originally the same happened to Maude, Jeffersons and Facts of Life. Shout! Factory bought distribution rights and completed the season releases. I don't get why they are holding onto it since they have no interest in completing the seasons or even showing it on TV.

Actually- I don't think TNN edited anything out - that's why they sped them up. If they did edit, it was very, very little.
If you have video editing software, you take the TNN copies, and slow them down, back to their normal speed.
