Adam Sandler Tops Forbes' 2013 List of the Most Overpaid Actors
by Dorothy Pomerantz, Forbes Staff

Methodology
Hollywood pays its biggest stars millions of dollar per film. Some are worth the money. Based on their last three projects, these 10 stars are not. We used data gathered from our Celebrity 100 research and Box Office Mojo to calculate how much, on average, each star's last three films earned at the box office per dollar of pay. Think of it like a star return on investment number.
Adam Sandler
Sandler tops our list this year because of two big flops: Jack & Jill and That's My Boy. His return should be better next year thanks to the success of Grown Ups 2.
Returns $3.40 for every $1 paid.
Katherine Heigl
A few years ago, Heigl was being touted as the next big romantic comedy star. Now she'll need to cut her payday demand if she wants to keep starring in films.
Returns $3.50 for every $1 paid.
Reese Witherspoon
Witherspoon is in the middle of a career reinvention. She's buying up great female-centric books for her production company and appearing in smaller films like this year's acclaimed Mud.
Returns $3.90 for every $1 paid.
Nicolas Cage
We don't count animated movies for this but if we did, Cage would have done a bit better. He voiced Grug in DreamWorks Animations The Croods which grossed $587 million at the global box office.
Returns $6 for every $1 paid.
Kevin James
James ranked on our Best Actors for the Buck last year but the recent film Here Comes The Boom knocked his return down to the overpaid category.
Returns $6.10 for every $1 paid.
Denzel Washington
As one of Hollywood's most reliable stars, Washington can demand a large upfront paycheck. Unfortunately, his films don't always do great at the box office.
Returns $8.30 for every $1 paid.
Steve Carell
Carell has been making some smart decisions lately taking roles in smaller films like Hope Springs, but he had a major misfire with The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
Returns $10 for every $1 paid.
Jennifer Aniston
Aniston is having more luck with supporting than starring roles. Horrible Bosses earned $210 million at the global box office but Wanderlust, which she starred in, brought in only $22 million.
Returns $10.60 for every $1 paid.
Matt Damon
Damon had a string of hits with the Bourne movies, but his latest films haven't been such sure things.
Returns $10.60 for every $1 paid.
Ryan Reynolds
Reynolds' returns haven't been great and they're only going to get worse. His summer 2013 movie R.I.P.D. was one of the biggest flops of the year but it hit theaters after our research deadline.
Returns $10.70 for every $1 paid.
