Not sure where this thread belongs but the always-respectable AFI released its list of 10 films and 10 TV shows for the AFI Awards this year. Veep is the only comedy on the list (alphabetically, not ranked):

THE AMERICANS
BREAKING BAD
GAME OF THRONES
THE GOOD WIFE
HOUSE OF CARDS
MAD MEN
MASTERS OF SEX
ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
SCANDAL
VEEP

I think it's quite damning to television & comedy in general that only 1 show got a nod. There is always at least a few on their list (last year's list featured Modern Family, Louie, and Girls). Have sitcoms, especially network sitcoms, become so crappy they are largely overlooked now?

LOL wow so a slight oversight on my part. But even still, it's only 1 show out of 10 and my point is still valid. I've edited the post.

Comedies never get the same respect as drama's when it comes to award shows!

I'd hardly consider this list the be-all anyway. There are some questionable choices on that list. (House of Cards?)

Yea, no awards/nomination list will ever be the be-all end-all list of greatness - it's merely opinions after all. But the American Film Institute is one of the most widely respected organizations in the entertainment field. Their nominations carry actual clout and are a pretty good barometer of quality. When comedy captures a minimal amount of their attention, it's sad.
